Hi there,

I would like to get in touch with anyone who have a Padi Destingtive Specialty Outline on freediving and who are interested in sharing this outline with me.

OR

Find another way that I can get a liability insurance that would cover me when I'm teaching freediving.

With kind regards

Chris

contact Sam Kirby (username samdive) she may be able to help you :)

Hi Christian

Sorry but I can't share my outline - got a few problems with politics and the fact that I am actually employed by PADI - if I give it away, I won't be allowed to teach it any more.... so I suggest you write your own - when I applied I had to be an AIDA Instructor first - so maybe do that first

DAN Europe cover freediving instruction through AIDA or PADI

I know if it is very difficult if not impossible to get liability cover in the US - where are you? maybe someone local to you can advise

Does PADI have pure freediving courses?
I thought it only was the "skindiver" course where you, following the standards, had to have something boyant around your neck (if you got tired on the surface and had to rest).

Hi ApneAnnelie

PADI does not have a "pure" freediving course, but they offer their Instructors a oppertunity to make their own courses. This is called a destingtive specialty... Some instructors have made their own Freediving courses, and can then teach a "pure" Padi freediving course. I'm looking for someone who have the outline for this type of course, since I would like to get insured for teaching freediving.

I would have thought that if an instructors wants to make his/her own distinctive speciality he/she should write their own outlines.. otherwise i would think that they are not qualified to develop that course if they just follow someone else's outlines/work...

PADI ( put another dollar in ) hope they dont ass up freediving like they have scuba!

OK, I see this tread is getting into the usual chat about PADI and wether or not someone is qualified to teach a certain course....

LET ME RE-PHRASE:

I would like to become a insured teacher of freediving. To me, one of the ways that could happend was to get covered by PADI, since I allready have a liability insurance that covers that part of my dive teaching (SCUBA that is) and if there is someone on deeper blue who actually have some informatione on how I could become a insured teacher of freediving without spending several hundreds of dollars on becomming a AIDA inst. or something like that (I allready have to pay Padi, that is enough) then I'm very interested in hearing from you.

As to the questioning my skills: I think there is alot of scuba divers who freedive, without knowing what they do, and how dangerus it is to what they do, so I think we can leave this question for another time... they need to know what they do, and does not need to become expert freedivers. What I think they need is to know alot more about safe freediving.... but again, lets leave this for another tread...

With kind reagrds

Chris

even if you did have a Distinctive Specialty Rating from PADI, you may not automatically be covered by your insurance. One thing is that you are not allowed to refer to it as a "PADI Distinctive Specialty" or a "PADI Course" as it is not - although PADI recognise it, it is not a PADI course, it is your course. If you wish to apply for one - I suggest you follow the guidelines in your PADI Instructor Manual and submit an outline together with paperwork backing up your application. One of the things I had to submit to back up my application was proof of instructor status with AIDA - so you would probably need to become an AIDA instructor to get the Distinctive Rating anyway.

Let me know by email if you need info on becoming an AIDA instructor.
