I believe there is the city of Cairo also somwehere in the states:) not sure i'll find the pyramids there though :)
cheers

That is not a surprise at all. There are 23 towns named Moscow, 22 Sydneys, 24 Paris and many others in the States. There is even a small town in New Mexico called Sofia, which is the name of the Bulgarian capital. :)

There is a London within 20 miles of where I live, near Fresno; take my word on this, it's nothing like the proper London :D.

That sign is at the intersection of Hwy 395 and the road to Ridgecrest where my hunting partner lives. I know it well. Yes, Griff, there is a Jo'burg in California. But as you are driving through it, don't blink. I think the population is something like 80. There are old gold mines there that some folk just refuse to quit digging in. With the yellow stuff running at $500/oz, do you blame them? ;)

It's not only in the US where you find borrowed place names, We have our very own Paris right here in South Africa, Not to mention all the Brittish places that just got a bearing attached, like East London, Somerset West, Somerset East. The Brittish must have felt very homesick when they came to South Africa.
