hi
anybody knows how to do that:

I cant find any thread about this topic despite the fact the author of this film wrote: "Thanks to Freediving world record holder William Truebridge for teaching the technique"

That's mammalian dive reflex in action, it's a circus trick I've also learned doing dry statics. When you do an exhale dry static, you can kick off the dive reflex in a really short time, under 30 seconds. HR drops quickly from 60bpm to 30-40bpm.

Practical usefulness not very high, unless you are looking to impress someone with your dive reflex. ;)

Never mind, i found the ultimate solution!!!

Here are my new gurus:

the technique is very easy J:

being more seriuous now:

i cant notice deep exhale on both films but you can be right

do you suggest Stig is a prospecting illusionist?

When scientists are amazed with his supernatural ability to control heart rate he just smiles and dont correct them explaining that this is only DR during full exhale static

Whats more he doesnt encourage scientists to try to become also supernatural heroes.

I’m asking because i’m looking for easy and comfort way to lower heart rate before dive to reach a pace <50 bpm with natural level of CO2, full o2 saturation and state of full relaxation.

I guess breathing pattern can help much. Any tips?

I have never actually heard of anyone lowering their heart to zero. The third video shows the "trick", and the first two videos are just two showmen basically putting on the same show - right down to the dramatic "jump awake" at the end. Neither of them takes off their shirt - perhaps they both have a sock under their arm?

I havent too. I just showed two illusionists and the explanation of their trick. But lowering heart rate ist still interesting issue.

So, is it possible to lower your heart rate at will - just with mental focus - or must you be doing an empty lung static or use some other physical trigger?

It is very possible to lower your heart rate by thinking about it. I can, a little. Surely somebody out there is far better. I don't doubt that Stig can change is HR just by thinking about it. Doing it exhale would help a lot.

On a more practical level, simply getting very relaxed and slowing your breathing down will provide a very low heart rate. In very calm conditions, mine gets down to 50. You might be different, 50 is my resting heart rate. Doing that, plus diving FRC will kick your DR in very fast(what the diver is really after) and keep your heart rate very low and dropping as the dive progresses.
