Can you train your lungs to become larger i.e. result being greater lung capacity? I have a vol of 6L (I dont know if this is good or bad for freediving??) but was under the impression I couldnt alter this?

I know you you can power train your lungs (exhale greater % in 1 sec). Is this of particular interest to freedivers or is is simply better to be able to hold a greater volume of air in your lungs?

deep diving vs breath holding

Hi,
when you dive very deep, you need a lot of air in your lung in order to equalize your ears. When you freedive, the lung volume dont make such a difference as the ability to run in anaerobic, mode, that is training your muscle to run "without" oxygen or rather run using less oxygen and producing less CO2.

When you breath up, you stock oxygen in your muscle tissue, you use that oxygen later when you are under water.

Bigger lung volume will give you an advantage but is not the determining factor. The flexibility of the rib cage is what you train, among other thing, to get bigger lung volume.
