Ok, here a few pics, of my new mares 75 carbon, with the reel.:martial
Looks sweet doesn`t it?:friday
Today I went fishing and caught a decent Amberjack, At about 17 meters, doing espetto.
I almost lost the jack, cause I had the reel closed, I opened it quickly and the jack took some line...

ok, here are the pics!!:vangry

It's a very interesting reel indeed.
I've seen that the attachment is articulated, so that the reel can be kept oblique. This way the reel line disappears into the barrel (there is a groove made on purpose in the barrell) and the line does not get tangled against weed, rocks, et cetera.
I've read a review of the gun and reel, and the guy said that this way you can keep the reel friction open without minding the tangling of reel line, which is actually useful.
I think you made a good purchase, my only complaint being it's not made in Italy.

Very good question, what is the grove for ?

It has some nice features, the line release is angle back, the muzzle has a nice simple design (issues I was complaining on my cayman), I guess I will need to get one to find out if the phanton shoots as good as the cayman.

You mean the grove under the barrell? It's to hide the reel line into.
When you turn the reel obliquely, the reel line is eaten by the grove so it won't get caught by weed and rocks.
It's a genial idea. If you've been hunting on the bottom, just focus on how many times your reel line got caught by something.

Any feed back on how well it shoots ?

The cayman HF is really acurate.

The handle looks somewhat small.

Gun looks interesting sorry to go a bit off topic but strangelove what have you found problem with with the muzzle on the cayman???

i've got a 110 here in Australia and the muzzle is very basic IMHO (i use it as an open muzzle) not with the SS bridge plate.

Just curious thats all.

would love to see a carbon cayman HF and in a 1.3m barrel length. NOW that would be the ultimate gun!

it is more personal problem (a few more divers complain about as well), I guess, I was not rigging the second wrap properlly so almost every other shoot would get tangle. I also think it needs a little hook under the muzzle. IMO the designers did not think about reloading speed.

I also think the HF is too loud, at this point I have not made my mind, cayman carbon or this gun.

ahhh i see you use double rap of mono. thats why i was a little confused, i dont have the same problem i just run the line over the shaft down the barrel and tension from reel, no second rap of mono. dont find i need it over here that often (otherwise i just go to a longer gun), i assume you are wanting the hook under the muzzle to rap your second rap of shooting line that would make sense.

as for loading speed not disagreeing just a little confused again i have open muzzle guns from Rob Allen, Pelaj, OMER (T20), Riffe euro, KES and Andre and i dont realyy notice any difference in loading speed between the HF and the other guns, other than the double rap issue i guess (havent tried but will give it a try this weekend)

Noise thing i agree with but thats just par for the course with and aluminium barreled rail gun (same as any of the south african railguns they are pretty noisy as well although i cant say i've lost any fish due to it)

like i said a carbon barrel version of the HF would solve that problem. (not to mention look pretty sexy as well)

About the loading speed, is more of a line release issue, the line release is at 90 degrees, my other guns, teak -sea, yokooji, andre, have the line release angle back, so the mono never slips.

About the second wrap, I just have one wrap of mono, the second wrap is from the reel line.

I agree, the HF has a sexy look !

I had notoiced the possibility to have the line close to the barrel aswell however, wouldn´t that be difficult if you are rewinding the line on the reel? cause of the angle?
That´s why I dedided not to go for this option.

I have only shot Mares pneumatics.

I have tried to purchase a 110 Mares carbon Phantom with reel.
The store has the 110 carbon Omer in stock, but I am waiting for the Mares.

Can you give more detail about what you think about the gun?

I have tried the Omer 110 and I liked it, I remember shooting a mackerel from 5meters, my first shot with gun!
the real on the omer was problematic (to me at least) and the paint was coming of, I remember.
The mares gun is carbon a nicer real, I think, but i have only tried the 75!
good luck!

Hey!

Just bought the mares phantom carbon 110, I was trying to mount the reel but I am having some trouble aligning the base of the reel with the hole on the gun. I didn't want to add too much pressure on it, i think it might come easily. Anyway I will try tomorrow with more calm. Do you have any tricks, or tips for mounting it?, Any help would be appreciated.

Looking forward to try it!, best regards!

Cesare,
yes, it was a nightmare to mount the reel!!, sorry about that!
I had to, with a knife, make the wholes a bit bigger, so i could get that metal piece through the little whole!
Pe patient but once it is on the gun, ir wont come off, thats for sure!!
goodluck!!

Thank you very much greendiver!!..you saved me a lot of troubles. I will do that today. Best wishes and happy hollidays

No worries, goodluck, and happy xmas.:friday
Ps."scrape" (with the knife in the whole) the plastic a bit, so the wholes get a bit bigger sothat the metal piece will eventually fit.

Do you guys ever dive with a reel on your arm which is then clipped to the handle of your gun? I dived with a spanish guy in Mozambique who used this technique. I liked the idea of it for reef diving so much i ordered myself a beauchat mundial reel which can be worn on my arm. Although he did lose a big wahoo due to the mickey mouse line he had on the reel (should of had dyneema).

Cheers Ian

I use a belt reel (a reel attached to my belt), which I can use with both hands, left or right what's more convenient at that moment.
I prefer the belt-reel over an arm-reel just because of the 2 hands option.
Anyway I keep the belt reel on the back of my belt, not on the front, so it does not annoy when I hunt belly-crawling style on reef bottoms. An arm reel can be annoying as well in reef hunting narrow spaces (noise, grind against rocks, etc). But anyway: belt reel on the back is the way to go IMHO.

Hey greendiver!

just mounted the reel, I scraped a little bit as you said, fits perfectly. I noticed the photos that you uploaded and i think that you missed the reel line guide in the barrel. Tha manual of the speargun says this:

INTEGRATED REEL LINE GUIDE
One problem encountered when using a reel is vibration of the line, along
with the risk that the line running between the reel and muzzle may become
entangled. This problem is eliminated thanks to a special guide running along
along the speargun body, which protects and practically conceals the line.
To guarantee that the line is always aligned with the speargun and reel, it is
threaded through two eyes mounted at opposite ends of the guide.

Try passing the reel line undeneath both eyes. I just did it and the line alligns with the undeneath barrel guide (the first one is to inches apart from the reel, the other one near the muzzle).

Best regards
