After I pass seventy feet I am having hell puffing my mask off my face.I am using a low volume mask of course. What do some of deeper freedivers do to keep your eyeballs from being sucked out of your head.
FWIW I am soley a freedive spearo if that makes any difference.

Well, for one thing, using a sphera I don't usually need to equalize it before -20m. And if I do it once at -20m, I'm pretty much set for the rest of the way.

The trick is, that not only is it low in volume, but it is extremely flexible. Thus, it actually compresses as you dive and you don't feel any squeeze until much later than with a normal mask...

Other than that, no magic tricks that I'm aware of...Just need to have good flexibility in the breathing muscles and good equalization technique.

To add to Simo's comments on chest flexibility, increasing flexibility lowers your residual volume and frees up some of your present residual volume to clear your mask with. Nice side effect is getting you more 02 in a full exhale/inhale breath. I used to have a similar problem and solved it with diaphram stretches. Do it every day for a month and you will see a big difference. Do a search and you will find lots of information on how to do it. There are also stretching excersizes that loosen up your intercostals (rib cage), but I had better luck with the diaphram.

I used to dive the rigs south of you (long ago). Where are you diving?

Good respiration technique and equializing technique equals more air volume to both equalize your mask and your ears.

With a good mouthfill technique, you should be able to equalize your mask to 120m or more...

The mouthfill is not reverse packing; it involves a single strenuous maneuver at a shallow depth, to fill the mouth & cheeks with air. The throat is then closed and the air in the mouth is sealed off as a separate air chamber, and that air is used to continue equalizing down into the abyss. Once the mouth has been filled, there is no more energy expenditure to equalize.

WHOOOAAAA.I have no idea what some of you guys are talking about.I started freediving after taking a bad bends hit on scuba.I am very comfortable in the water because I have always been in it.I have a hunting depth of about 70 ft and can dive deeper if needed.
Some of the lingo I don't follow?

Eric, thanks for explaining. Now I get it. :)

Chasintail, there is lots of info for beginners in the beginner freediving section.
