Hi I am an avid spear fishermen in norther california, right now I am using a cressi sub Minima it is a good mask, very comfortalble and very low volume. The only thing it lacks is biger lenses for more all around visability. I was woundering if any of you may have some sugestions. I am willing to look at all manufatuers not just cressi sub.

thanks

Cressi Big eyes or the new model (Matrix?) are good for vision , they may need a little more equalizing but it depends how deep you go.
Sporasub Samurai as pointed out above is excellent.
I have also got the Omer Abyss exclusive which is low vol. but not a huge field of vision.
I have recently ordered the Omer Alien which is supposed to be good too, I guess it depends on which one fits you...

I have a Cressi Matrix and Omer Alien. Matrix has Awesome visual field. Alien less so - particularly peripheral - but a very nice mask and a bit lower volume.

Spetton Gear looks very cool - and reasonably priced.

have had a Cressi Superocchio for ten years - great mask. Because the skirt is thicker than the Omer Alien it does not require that much air to equalize pressure on eyes at depth, however I have to remember to shave closely otherwise water seeps in with a slight stubble. Omer Alien has better peripheral vision and seals nicely on my face with a slight stubble, at depth >35 ft pressure on eyes become much more noticeable and uncomfortable than the Superocchio.

I'm using my old Omer Asia for low water, the Omer Alien for medium depth and a very small Diansub for deeper: there's no universal mask. The Alien has a very soft silicone and it's comfortable for hours and hours. But it's not the right mask for those who have a very big nose!

I prefer the black skit because I find I can see better. With the black skirt there is less light coming in from the side so your pupils are suppose to be more dilated and they don't have to adjust as much when its darker down below. There is also apparently less reflections because no light is coming in from the side, but I haven't noticed that.

As far as esthetics, the clear skit will have a yellow tint with time. And most importantly, black looks better

Well i have A Cressi Matrix...i use it for scuba and skindiving.it got a low volume and wide field of view after hours of diving when u come to take it out...i feel that my nose hurts a little.:head
I am looking forward to get an Omer Abyss...Is it Comfortable on the nose?have u ever tried it?

Rabih

I have a matrix too. Also an OMer Alien - which is probably similar in fit to the abyss. The omer masks use very soft silicone - but they also have an upturned nose pocket thats a little annoying if you have a large nose.

Huge diff between an opaque or clear skirt - definitely do not want clear for freediving.

why not?

also, I'd like to ask if the Alien is really a similar fit to Abyss? Abyss was a bit tight for my wide face, butr I haven't got the chance to try one. However I'm thiking of ordering one online (stupid, I know but we have no omer dealers here, and in the local shops I didn't really find a suitable mask for me. The one which fitted me best was Cressi big eyes, but it really has a huge volume. I'm looking for a similar fit but lower volume, I'd use it for spearfishing.

Sorry for sounding so absolute :) The reflections in a clear mask drive me nuts on the surface or any time I'm looking down. I've had to cup my hands around the edges of the mask to see. I haven't tried an abyss - but I know they are close in volume. They also look to have a similar nose pocket from the detail pics on the omer site.

I know this may sound blasphemic to deep divers, but what about omer asia? Internal volume is quite bigger than specific spearing masks, but after 8 years of hard use it's still my favourite for 0-15mt (and my nose feels more comfortable than in the alien)

While we're on it - has anybody tried the Riffes? (AQA) I'm curious if their nasal accomodation is more generous than the Omers and Cressi Matrix.

I also have the minima, it is comfortable mask to wear, but because of the extreemly small lenses I feel closterphobic wearing it. I was diving with UNIRDNA (Ted) he tried it and agreed. I tried Ted's Superocchio and liked it much more, since then the Superocchio has been my mask of choice. It does have a larger volume but I feel a lot more comfortable with it.

yesterday I tried the new sporasub instinct, the new spearing mask of sporasub - I liked it better than the samurai, although only had the chance to try it on in the store.Any real life tests with this mask?
