Hi everybody,

Just busted my old mask :vangry (sporasub jamaica), so I gotta get a new one. I tried both the Cressi Big Eyes and the Tusa Platina and the both fit nice. I heard the Cressi is pretty fragile.... Wanna use it for diving/freediving/snorkeling. What do you guys recommend?

Thanks

Sander

Here are my impressions - from a recent spate of compulsive mask testing

The Cressi Matrix is the upgraded Bigeyes - is has better everything and less volume. I have one with scrip lenses in it. The folks who did the lenses told me they had problems with the Bigeyes falling apart. I bought the matrix shortly after they came out - I could not get a good seal with the bigeyes. If the bigeyes fits the matrix is a pretty safe bet.

The Omer Alien is also fantastic - and extremely comfortable. It lacks the Matrix' excellent field of vision, but is still quite good and compresses better (at depth the lenses move closer to the eyes - improving the field of view a bit).

The Omer Alien is a very nice fitting mask and probably a safer bet if you are ordering without trying - very soft silicone and purpose - built for spearfishing. I'm getting lenses put in one of those too after testing it out for awhile.

I'm also curious about the Omer Exsite - which, while higher volume than the alien - is supposedly very compressible and looks to have a great field of vision.

I've also tried the cressi lince2 - it has slightly less peripheral vision than the alien - is about the same up and better down (not significantly however) - but won't seal on my face. It doesn't touch the Matrix for visual field but has lower volume. It feels like a mask made for smaller faces.

is that your photo in the avatar?

Thanx 4 all the advice but I really want to choose between the Platina and the Big eyes, because they fit me (I have a difficult face :) ). Just heard the Big Eyes breaks very fast...
That's me in the picture ( in the middle rofl)

Had a platina for years (about 8 in fact). I don't use it as my primary mask anymore, but its is still very serviceable as a backup (I needed reading lenses in my mask and prefer the ones built in).
