Hey has anyone used this fins called the Matrix fins?
I think they actually made by water way company. I thought about getting a pair for spearfishing in black of course to replace my gara 3000 that are loosing there snap.
I wanted to get some feed back before dropping the money on them!

I just put a new pair of black ones on some new Omer foot pockets about two weeks ago. They are great but tend to be stiffer than what their numbers insinuate. I bought the Matrix #3 blades, and they are really stiff. I was 190 lbs but have recently lost 20 lbs and some strength so I need to go down to the #2 blades.

If you are a big guy or a strong kicker, I am willing to sell you mine. They were in the water once for about five minutes so they're brand new. If you are not a strong kicker or you're 170 lbs like me, go for the #2 blades.

Jim

:)

I have a pair of black matrix fins with Sporasub footpockets, stiffness #3. I bought them via Hanapaa Hawaii to replace my plastic Beuchat Competitions. The Matrix fins are much better - more consistent propulsion, VERY durable, and the rails help keep them slipping from side to side. The Beuchats seem to lose some of their "snap" over time, whereas the Matrix fins keep the "power" up. :)

I agree. But give it a chance. First time I use mines I was spining (you now "the water drill" :D :D ). I can fin much better now but still thinking that #3 are too stiff.

sorry jim I'm in the process of loosing about 20lbs myself and plan on ordering the #2 but thanks anyway and thank you the great info guys

Everyone has different needs and different stories, but here is mine.

My old Esclapez Black fins were barely getting me off the bottom at 50 feet. A friend loaned me his Picasso Camoprenes and his Matrix to try out.

The Matrix were the number 4 stiffness mounted in Sporasub foot pockets. I dove to 50 feet and came off the bottom like a rocket, but while swimming on the surface, I felt like I was wearing stiff plywood boards. Also, the top of the Sporasub pocket was already killing me in 10 minutes, and there was no way I could wear if for any length of time.

The Picasso Camoprenes felt wonderful, but for over $600 they should, and there is no way I'm spending that much on a fin.

I called Roger Yazbeck, Mr. Picasso America, and asked which foot pocket was used in the Camoprenes. He said it was the Black Team, so I ordered a pair of those pockets.

Then I called Dennis Hausler of 20 fathoms and told him what sort of diving I did and asked which Matrix blade I should order. He said I should get #2. I was a bit irate and assured him that while I was older than dirt, I still had a pretty strong kick. But he told me that he had used #2 blades in the nationals in Rhode Island the previous summer and had no trouble getting off the bottom at 70 feet.

So I got Matrix #2 blades and put them in Picasso Black Team pockets, and am very happy with the combo. If all I did was dive deep and/or go up and down ropes, I'm sure I could use stiffer blades. But for my kind of diving in SoCal, I think my fins are just right.

I have the black water blades #3 but never really liked them that much because it killed me on the surface swim (no angle in the blade). I wish I could have bought the #2s but they only sell the 3s and 4s in Hawaii. There are alot of people here who use it and the local store says it is the top seller but they were just not for me. I only used them a handfull of times and gave it to my cousin. I bought a pair of specialfins mediums pros and never looked back and it came with a kick ass bag (bad ass fins but it cost $$$). I think the Edge blades (20fathoms) are out and they have an angle in the blades.
