Heading to Meadow Lake for the long weekend. My brother in law too probably. We can hit Little Strawberry (?) for some splake! Who's in?

I am in forsure... maybe some other locals too. I can see who is all intrested.

Bump! Sis, brother-in-law, and Sherri(Pixie74) coming too :)
Can't wait to get in the water and fry up some fish!

Unfortunately I will be working all May long. I am interested in another weekend (possibly making it long with one day off) to head up to Whiteswan. Messey are you going to be up there this year again?

I unfortunately will not be up there for months at a time anymore but I will hopefully make it for atleast 2 weekends this summer. I am going to try for the may long and sept. long. I start my new job on monday so I will find out if may long will work then. I get every third friday off so I am really hoping the friday of the may long is one of those fridays.

If you are thinking of going that far I would really suggest trying to make a 4 day weekend. It takes about 10 hours for me to get there from Calgary with a quick stop in Prince Albert for food and fuel so I travel one day fish 2 days then drive home.

How is the fishing there is Sep? I will know my schedule better in the next month for the whole summer. We should head together as a group and split fuel for a 4 day weekend. Post your possible dates when you know. Like I said, May long won't work for me.

Anyone know the road into Little Raspberry? I don't want to hike in again. I can ask at Kimball, but if you know....
Thanks,
Erik

I have never been up there in september but the fishing is never bad. I would be able to go up on the august long weekend forsure but it is kinda busy then. I can probably make any weekend work in august. Any time in september would probably be ok to but the lake closes for lake trout fishing after the long weekend and I would have to check when the lodge is closing for the season it might be the same time lake trout fishing closes.

My favorite time to go up is may and june and late august the water is clearer and less people are out.

Once you know your schedule we can narrow it down a bit more.

Believe it or not, there is a chance that the lakes will still have ice on them by May long. We have had an incredibly slow melt this year in Saskatchewan. A lot can happen in just a week, but you may want to bring an ice auger with you :)

Reports right now for many lakes in the central region fishing zone are that they are completely locked up with not even any open water near the shore.

Locals that live up in these areas are also saying that when it is this slow, the ice will not come off the lake until the beginning of June.

Yeah our lakes are just starting to open this week, so we'll see. We're going in any case!

We have been talking about going up 2 weeks after the long weekend now, I am going to call the lodges up there to see what they think. If we go up and there is ice over top of one of our spots we will just have to break out the ice saw. Last may when we went up there was still ice on whiteswan but it was so rotten you could break through, it was fun but a bit cold.

I have been watching that thread for a few days now it is what made us consider going 2 weeks later.

I have 4 days off so we're going in any case- nice to get the hell out of the city for some quiet and fresh air with people I love.
Hopefully it's 30C for the next week hahaha!

I have given up on hoping for 30C days until at least August. We have had a crazy spring here in Sask. to say the least. With the exception of about 1 week, we have been consistently under-avg temps since even before the beginning of spring. The western half of the province saw two big snow storms in mid-April that left with almost as much snow accumulation as they got for the entire year (N. Battleford saw I think 50-60 cm in one snowstorm alone).

I left for work this morning to below zero temps :-(

I'm going 100 km north of Saskatoon tomorrow to get out and into the water. Here's to hoping it's warmer out of the water than in.
