So this is a follow-up to another thread: Question about weights and tactics
I mentioned spotting a mackerel-looking fish last month. Well I caught that fish today. I think it was the same one, cause it was the same spot, and it sped by, eyeing me, like the last time. Made me feel kind of bad since you realize fish have customs and habits. Can someone tell me what it is? I've been looking on this page here but I think I need to take it out again and get a better look: http://users.sch.gr/skoud/top/top.htm
I wanted to ask about general tactics in the Med. Up until now, most of my catches have been luck, grey mullets swimming by, sneaking up on a fish around a corner, or shooting in a hole. The more videos I watch, and the more I notice big fish darting away before I get anywhere near them, it seems the hole idea here is to only move around on the bottom, as you will never see fish from the surface. Do people in the Mediterranean generally breathe up in one spot, swim below and ambush, then repeat?
In other words, I get the impression that no one so much as moves while they're on the surface because all it does is give you away. All of this means that without a good breath you can't accomplish much. I've been trying this, especially since I live in a place without many rocks. Unfortunately my breath hold isn't so good yet so it's not that effective. A few times on my longest attempts I would see a big fish appear just as my breath was running out. Today though I wasn't able to wait long enough for anything. I've been doing the throat sounds too, seem to help.
