Hi I started a Meet up group for Freedivers in the Los Angeles and Orange county areas of Southern California.

http://www.meetup.com/Los-Angeles-Free-Diving-Meetup/
This meet up is aimed at Free divers who have done a FII( Freediving Instructors International ) or Equivalent Level 1 course. Primarily we are looking for qualified buddies so we can dive safely. (If you have not done such a course but are interested in learning more about any aspect of free diving you are welcome to ask questions, hang out etc We are relative newcomers but can at least give you leads to follow up to local Training courses in the area and shops etc.) I did a FII Level 1 course on Catalina in Southern California in May. The course was really good and my Instructor, Vaclav was great. So I want to do more line diving. I have a float that I have set up and have had several successful trips to Veterans Park, Redondo with good conditions and up to 20 meter dives approx. I am lucky that I have met and buddied up with another FII Level 1 free diver but that is only the one person; If he is not available etc I don't have any one to dive with and if I am out of town he is alone. I am hoping that we can build a network of FII Freedivers in the Los Angeles / Orange County area to free dive with, through the Meetup app. Primarily we would plan on doing Free dives on selected weekend mornings at Veterans Park, Redondo Beach which seems to be convenient, parking and showers etc etc. However it would be fun to do other trips to Reef dive etc to Shaws Cove or perhaps on Peace out of Ventura out to the Channel Islands. But first we need to build a community. There is no money involved other than your own expenses.

Thank you Alasdair Boyd

Diving is always dependent on Sea conditions but it is tough to tell unless you are actually there. Last weekend was great but the weekend before was a bit rock and roll. I generally go and can then make a decision appropriate to the conditions. But it is worth checking your email in the morning in case of cancellation before you schlep over to Redondo. Be in the lot by 7 am. If you are late you will probably have to catch up on your own. Parking and showers are available, bring quarters to feed the meter. We park and get changed up top then walk down the steps to the beach about 20 to 30 minutes later. We will set the float / depth depending on conditions and participants interests/comfort level. Likely we would have the weight on the sand at no more than 15-20 meters. We dive for 45 minutes- 1 hour approx. Then it is ashore and stow gear. I bring warm water in a 1 gallon jug to rinse off with. It is all about positive energy and good vibes etc but we should feel comfortable diving together for all of our safety. Any questions please reach out to me.

thanks Alasdair
