has anybody had experience with stretching the footpockets of a Hyper style fin....

i have just order a shoe stretcher (the wood ones) that you adjust the size when it is in your shoe by screwing it further apart.

it acts to widen the toe area as well as increase the length so hopefully it will work.

any other ideas without cutting the fin apart?

Oh I'm going to enjoy this thread... :D

Bjorn how bout just cutting the straps and re-attach them further rearwards?

I am assuming this is regarding Your Rocketfin? If so did You ask Victor?

I would use heat gun along with the stretcher, would have to be careful not to burn or melt rubber and would make sure it's OK from Victor

My guess is pockets are way too small so playing with straps doesn't make enough difference, right?

Watts hehehehe.
Yeah straps I don't particularly want to modify if I don't have to they are more integrated into the pocket that a normal hyper style fin. And I chat find out what kind of glue to use. Have asked but no luck. And I can speak from experience than cynoacrilate does NOT work it sets hard and cracks. Nt what is used in the production of foot pockets.

So stretchingthem is the only option I think until I can get the glue. The catch is I only have 2 weeks till I leave for evypt an NO finto use.

Can someone out there please produce a reliable hi quality fin that has standard sizings and fin stiffness that people can rely on! Ted hope your lunoce fits the bill.

Have emailed viktor but have not recieved a return email. Shie stretchers arrive next week so will take a chance with them and a heat gun or hot water!

I think youll find that the hot water will do nothing and the hot air may loosen the existing glue joints.I think you will need to open up one side of the pocket and pull the strap back some. I think its the only way.The same glue for inflatable boats a two part contact adhesive which gets heated just prior to contact is the way to go.

Nat...congrats on the house...

hey bjorn ive got a good idea how bout you sell it to me for half price and i will take it off your hands for you hahaha :t

Seriously man that thing is way to nice to tamper with, just put it in a cabinet and admire it

Hey DD,

Good luck with the fin modifications. Unfortunately, I don’t have any useful advice for you, as I don’t use that kind of construction in any of my fins.

Also, I’m sorry that I didn’t have my DOL-Fin Orca ready in time to be available for you when your old fin broke. Perhaps I can still be of service to you later when you need to replace this one. The adjustable foot bindings I’ve been developing may prove desirable once people are familiar with the concept and its advantages.

Hi Bjorn,
normally straps are the easiest to adjust, could you get new rubber material and glue that one and cut the old ones off ?
Clark rubber may have something.

In terms of glue I have removed the heel straps off my glide fin twice, glued it twice and have no signs of the rubber peeling, glue coming off, it's solid. You have to clean it & sand it etc before glueing. I had the opposite problem where the heel straps were too long. The glue I used came from waterway, it was in russian but showed a picture of a bicycle. I'm about %99 sure it's just bicycle inner tube rubber contact cement. I think any rubber contact cement will work, the superglue type is only used for fibreglass to rubber, it's no good for rubber to rubber.

Just remembered I have stretched the toe height in the footpockets also. I used a heat gun, some socks/cloth material and a stick. Procedure is stuff the cloth into the footpocket, pack it down with the stick, then heatgun it, stuff some more, let it cool and repeat a few times.

If you think you need to do major mods you are better off ordering another fin and selling that one. If you have modified it it may be difficult to sell it at all. I speak from experience having some half butchered fins :head :t

Cheers,
Wal

hi all,
not lose time !
you need to Dismantle (demontage) one of two parties of rubber strap and to glue back, adding necessary to you length which you need ! If it need , demontage 2 parts .
it very simple glue is rubber inundated by petrol. If to take a bit natural rubber and add it on some time by petrol 95-98, then it is possible to have a glue for work with rubber to rubber ! but everything was several times seen by natural rubber at the factory ! it is Possible to look a workshop on repair of old shoe, if such is in your city and to ask there !
Good luck...

regards
Alex
