ok so I have my waterway monofin and even when I fight the pain I just can't stand it after 30 min or maybe less training with it...I know they have to be tight but I'd like to try a more comfortable model or maybe the specialfins models with omer footpocket (that would be a monofin with an ordinary fin foorpocket)...I know the performance is not the best but at least it can work to just dive around and do some snorkeling....any suggestions? :D

My advice:
Get the specialfins with omer footpockets. I'm using such and i've never had any pain during swimming..i normally stay in water like 4 hours or so and it doesn't hurt even a bit. Ch:fridayeerse

I agree with whucash. The Omer footpockets are very comfy, even after hours of use. Especially if you have socks on.

I suppose you have a Glide? I suggest you use the fin frequently. You'll become immune to the pain after a while.

I started out with a specialfins Dolphin with Omer footpockets and it was very comfortable. My feet never hurt with those footpockets. After a year or so I broke it in a pool, so I bought a waterway model 1. It`s getting uncomfortable after about 15i-20 min. But as you mentioned it is alot more effective. When I train now I often switch between small, small fins for techniquetraining and the waterway. That works for me.

If you have alot of money you want to spend, maybe you should go for the Leaderfins Hyper pro. They make customized footpockets. I talked to a member of the danish national team (one of those 200m DYN guys) and he talked about his fin wich was custommade by measurements. The pockets were tight but he could wear it for hours. I`m not a 100% sure but I think it was the hyperfin pro he got. Anyone else that`s got that one? It sounds to good to be true actually:)

B-J i hope your right about custom pockets, i just ordered a Giperfin Hyper from the Ukraine, they are completly hand built and the footpockets are built to measure. they are very similar to the Hyperfin Pro but with greater blade angle.

these new age Hyperfin monos seem to be the go but not sure about comfort will let you knonw when mine arrives.

but for recretional use there is no doubt that the OMER pockets will be the most comfortable but you will loose some performance. i'd look at the Waterway Nemo or Leaderfins Freeflyer both companies have brilliant products.

regards

Bjorn, it's not about whether the footpockets are custom made or not. It's the type of rubber used in making the footpockets that count. Different types of rubber make fins swim differently. As you probably already know, hyperfins are designed around the footpockets and thus, the rubber too.

Yep Salibandy, that i understand, i am just assuming that because i discussed with max the need for comfort being VERY important to me and that i am willing to sacrifice some effeciency for that, he was willing to make them a little bit larger than standard to allow for a more comfortable fit.

I can see the cringes on some of the comp divers faces now, order a competition fin then have it made more comfortable, sacrificing power! who would do such a thing!!

But for me this was more important and i wanted the best fin i could afford from the start so that is what i got. 2 weeks and counting. Fin was sent today!!!!

Good to hear. Actually Max told me about your fin. He had some concerns. He thinks by opening the footpockets you'll change the dynamics of the fin.

I actually grew into the fin. Now it's not that uncomfortable. I love it to bits.

??? thats interesting, what did you guys resolve with my fin? i hadnt heard anything about the concerns.

i didnt ask for it to be "opened up" just made slightly larger i gave him an outline of my foot with measurements in mm.

hope it doesnt end up all wrong or i'll be gutted.

interested to hear what you discussed.

DD

Well yeah, that's what I meant. Bigger footpockets.

I don't remember exactly what he said, only that it might change the dynamics. Oh, and that making a hyperfin is a science by itself!rofl Which I agreed with 100 percent.

Max is real good at this stuff, so don't worry. If you absolutely have to, you can send the fin back to have him alter it. You pay the shipping though.

i science in its self soinds about right! if i tried making one it'd probably fall apart if i looked at it funny!

well he hasnt spoken to me about it so i guess he's just gonna make it to work! which is fine by me i'll just teach my feet to like it.

how is yors going by the way salibandy?

It's been great to me. Now all I have to do is find perfect bouyancy and steamlining. The fin alone has brought me further, but it all needs to come together to be optimum.

good luck with that! i'm still struggling with my boyancy, particularly for no fin where i have to maintain a moderate pace to stay don (not at all efficient) closest i have found is FRC which seems to work pretty well for me in .5mm pants.

dive feels pretty good too.

VERY happy to here you like you fin. how do you find the stiffness compared to a waterway model to for example?

Hello,

I' joined this blog recently and haven't been very active. I am a Lunocet (Monofin) user. Unfortunately my Lunocet broke last month and while I'm waiting for a replacement unit I've looked into other monofin types.

I've decided to order a "Waterway model 1" medium strength.

This thread has really helped me to make my choice. Thanks!
