hi

I just got a new.secondhand waterway glidefin and have a few questions. What is everyone using to lube their feet/fin to put them on? I did a search on here but it came up with a million irrelevant threads. I have used a standard bar of soap and found that it makes the fin go on easily but my feet slip around for a while afterwards as the soap doesnt dissolve? I saw somewhere someone suggested some type of silicone spray? I would prefer something that makes it easy to put on but then dissovles quickly so the feet dont slide around. The other concern about soap is that I know it destroys the rubber on wetsuits will it also destroy the rubber in the fin? I worry about this because the rubber on my previous fin fell apart and literally melted away possibly due to a combination of chlorine, heat and maybe soap?

thanks

I use the same mix as my wetsuit lube. Hair conditioner and water.

Aha... finally a freediving questions on a topic I am a complete expert on

I use liquid based soaps, shampoos and conditioners. Basically whenever I stay in a hotel I pinch all their shampoos etc. as these are a great size for taking on freediving trips.

I've found that a bar of soap does not work in salt water, for some reason it won't lather and won't lubricate. I don't get these problems with the liquid soap varieties. Dove body wash is a great one as it lubes up well and washes out pretty quickly and is not really a "soap".

I know some people that use silicon lube but I chose not to go down this path when I borrowed some lube from another Finnish girl at a comp a few years back and she threw me a can of "Anaal lube" :naughty

I've never had a problem with the rubber deteriorating - age and sunlight will kill it before the soap does.

Any other lube related questions, just er, shoot....

thanks guys i will try out the same stuff i use for my wettie and see how that goes.

Special thanks to benny b for sharing your extensive knowlege of lube rofl

Long term use of regular soap won't deteriorate your fin, don't worry about that.

Soap works fine in pool water, but some "pool boys" won't let you use it because they have concerns about water quality. They'll want you to use vasiline, which is not the preferred option for a finswimmer.

Nth Qld Spearo, I'm looking forward to reading your test results!
I invite you to post them as a comment on my article about this subject at Monofin selection - How to choose the best monofin for your needsFinswimming Bay so that I can update the information there for other monofin users.

Thanks!

Cheers
