Monofin problem

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
I should have translated!

It seems sometimes there is glue which goes bad over time - I have had several fins with problems like mattbigblue's. All could be fixed (one fell completely apart in the middle of a lake!) but it seemed the glue simply cracked.

I see also they have special cyanoacrylate made for sheer strength (pulling and twisting at sharp angles).

Sorry to interrupt the real discussion with a side issue, but I do not think the fin broke at the 25m turn. Early in the first 25 meters I see the fin beginning to twist uneven on the downward stroke of the fin. It does not happen completely sudden, but it seems to be quite prominent by the 8th fin stroke. Does anyone else conclude this from the video, or am I seeing optical distortions?

Well, it's hard to say, I don't think there is anything unusual happening on the first 25m, despite very bad technique of the guy and You can't expect him swimming symetrical if it's one of his first swims in a monofin in his life

anyway, case is solved. I did use Cyjanopan, however I think that glue can last for some time and then again break down so we add some more support I know that my fin is the weirdest fin which has been in the 100m zone, cause it's broken in the middle and fixed with stainless stell plate. Now I've taken it to another level and it's cyborg monofin :martial

thanks everyone for help

Matt

Funny Matt,

this is second time Your mono broke just before competition.
Maybe this is sign that NO FINS is Your thing

or make Your newbie friend buy Your Triton and get Starfin, it's 1kg lighter so it should be cheaper

I was about to write something but I saw you have it fixed.

I've made an attempt to make my own monofin and what I used to glue the footpockets to the blade was a Locktite glue No.406. It was specially designed to glue rubber and other materials that has to maintain flexibility. It stuck pretty good and there was no issues. You may wanna try this if you have issues in future.

Thanks,
I have used Loctite 406 to fixed footstraps in the past and it stick pretty good. However, I don't think it would work same good with rubber + fiberglass, cause this kind of glue is especially for rubber conections, but I'm not an expert and could be wrong

p.s. my fix does job really well, almost repeated my PB on my first 'go' with it I may consider doing it on other footpocket too, because one side could be stiffer now, and power transmission may not be in balance, it will require more testing.

cheers,
Matt
