Wow! Take a look at this monster...

This is the Nomura jelly fish. It can weigh up to 200kg, and it also has deadly stingers. It´s threads can stretch for 50 meters It`s currently blooming outside the waters of Japan causing enormous problems for fishermen.

That`s something to catch for all you spearfishers out there:martial

Here´s the url for those who can read Norwegian:
Kjempemanet har drept åtte mennesker - magasinet - Dagbladet.no

Maybe the more experienced freedivers have heard about it before, but I must say, I have never seen that much jello.

Bloody hell! Imagine smacking into one of those when you're freefalling...

yeah...maybe they can be tamed and used for riding:crutch
The article also mentoned that if you try to destroy them, they release several billion small eggs:ko

I wish I had one of those when a Bluebottle (Portugese Man-o-war) swum into my mouth when I took my snorkel out to talk (and put it back in with tentacle all over it). Got it in my mouth, tongue, lips, all over my face and i've never felt pain like that before. The redness and swelling took about 3 weeks to go down and I had a mark on my face for about 3 months... not fun!

About 20m of the northern beaches of Sydney, Australia. Most of Australia gets bucketloads of them around Summer, we used to pop the ones on the beach with our feet when we were kids. I didn't take any pictures at the time cause I was a bit embarrassed - I had to make an announcement at work as to what had happened because people thought i'd caught some sort of sexually transmitted manky skin eating disease!

Holy crap! I'll put that one up in the news tomorrow night when I get back. That's awesome!!

Benny I really feel for you! We have bluebottles back home and they used wind around around our legs when surfing or you'd get them head while body surfing :crutch
Can't believe you got one in your mouth!!! Yyyeeeeeoowww

These orange ones here in long strands are pretty obnoxious too, there sting feels like a mini lightning bolt - although I have had so many in the last few onths I think I am becoming immune to them. Do u think that's possible?

BennyB, I can see why you chose to explain the incident:)But, man that could have gone really wrong, couldn´t it?
