Hi there,
Im just getting into spear fishing, and me and my buddy are looking for an area in the Monterey zone to actuallly see some fish and be able to get to them. Preferably decent visibilty and not super deep. We both cant hold our breth for that long yet so we cant go very far under haha

I like Carmel River SB near the mouth of the river.
Carmel River SB
Park in the parking lot early in the morning near the bathrooms for a walk across the beach or on the street near the two sets of stairs to enter the water on the protected north side. Be careful to not block a driveway or park illegally on street.

There are many Blue Rockfish, sometimes good size Blacks, sometimes big perch, sometimes a Lingcod. 30-45 feet in the kelp bed. But you can get 12"+ Blues at 15' in the upper kelp.

Sign-up on SpearBoard California section for a buddy that dives the area frequently to show you around.

Do not dive in kelp if unfamiliar. Stay on the edges and open areas. Bring a Boogie board with catchbag for gear, water, etc. and will help kayakers see you better.

Hey thanks for the reply! ya ive been reading about carmel, so i will most likely give it a try! ill try to stay out of the kelp but my curiosty just might get me haha
