Anyone want to freedive the evening of July 23rd in the Monterey area?

I'll be flying into San Jose around noon and plan on heading straight for the ocean. Need some salt in the system from being land locked for too long :p

I have dove the lovers point and breakwater area before and would love to checkout the Carmel dive sites.

Thanks!!
Jeff

Sorry I missed your post Jeff in regard to being in Monterey on 7/23,

I freedive in the Monterey area frequently and would be happy to show you
some nice places to dive there in the future. Let me know next time you're
planning on visiting the Monterey Bay area.

Keep swimming,

Bill aka The Billfish

Thanks Billfish,

As it happened Northwest bumped me 12hrs out which killed Sunday :head . I did make it after work on Monday, but just went to breakwater. I would love to checkout Monastery Beach sometime but with more time and hopefully a buddy.

I should make it out there again before the end of the year so I'll definitety send you a message as soon as I know.

Here is a little vid I recorded.

Tried to get a video of an otter but they are pretty fast and shy.

Couple of pics that turned out ok.

Nice pics Ceason!

The sea otters are pretty chill after they have had a meal;they like to wrap themselves up in the kelp and nap. Do be careful about approaching marine mammals too closely: seals, sea lions, otters, etc. as they are protected by law. There are people on shore (Friends of The Sea Otter org) who are posted to monitor the populations with binoculars.

Next time you come, check out Stillwater Cove (inside the Pebble Beach
community). You pay a small fee to enter the "17 Mile Drive" but then
you can launch a kayak, small boat or swim out and dive. This is where a
lot of day charter dive boats do their second shallower dive for the bubble
blowers after visiting the Pinnacles; the premier dive spot for SCUBA in
Monterey.

Here's a link to info on access to Stillwater Cove:

Thanks for the tip. If I see them first I usually stay a reasonable distance from them. In this case he came from somewhere and started checking me out. With the sun so low couldn't really spot where his/her hangout spot was. There was a small grey seal that liked to spy hop around me too but he was so quick I didn't get a good pic of him.
