Mounting Mechanisms??

How do you guys get the pins for the mechanisms to be accurately put in? is there some sort of template? im using an daryl wong mechanism. also how do you mill the mechanism hole? do you just make it the size of the mechanism and mill it right through? its going to be a 55 in mid handle

aloha,

usally there mesured using them caliper things arnt they that would be my guess anyway. and for the trigger pocket . route it till the top of the mech is flush with the top of the gun. then mill a little slot for the trigger to poke through
jayke

i clamped the mech. to the outside of the gun and drilled through the holes in the mech.
for the instillation of the mech drill out the slot with a nice bit and drill press then do a bunch of chiseling to straiten up the holes.
this might help it's, my last build and an early draft of the written part of the project

i used to use a router to do the trigger slots. it potentially is the best way, but lately i have been using a 1/2" forstner bit in a drill press. the forstner bit makes a clean hole .i just use tape on the bit to mark how deep to drill the holes. then i clean VERY CAREFULLY. with a REALLY sharp chisel.flip the stoch over and drill 5/16 slot under the gun for the trigger to poke through. you dont want to drill out the whole stock for the mech, ideally. it is best to have it sit on a little "shelf", keeps it stronger for sure. you want to keep going deeper and inserting the trigger in the slot, and checking it , by sliding the spear down the track, until the exact height is achieved , so that the spear glides in and out of the mech, without catching AT ALL! ,(very very important!) when you got the exact spot for the trigger to sit , then you are ready to drill the pins. first make a template for drilling it. i used a piece if angle metal. clamped the trigger to the piece and drilled it out on a driill press. then use it to clamp to the barrel with the trigger installed. if you line it up right, you can drill tthrought the holes in the angle metal, through the barrel and trough the trigger in place. 3/16 bit works perfect.let me know if you need pics or something
