Hey all,

I will be moving to Antalya, Turkey at the date mentioned in the title. I've been spearfishing for quite some time and I hope to continue in Turkey. If you know, could you update me on the following points:
  • Is spearfishing STILL allowed in 2021?
  • If so, what fish are off limits
  • Is a license needed for foreigners (USA)
  • Are there any recommended shops in Antalya or online
Any help or additional advice is greatly appreciated.

Herkese merhaba,

Hello,

I know the Kas region, west of Antalya

I dived (I'm mostly a spearfisher) for a week near Kas and also moved along the wild coast between these points

36 ° 10'19.15 "N

29 ° 37'48.07 "E

and

36 ° 7'54.71 "N

29 ° 40'45.99 "E

I don't think spearfishing is allowed ... I saw local fishermen come out of the water and go and hide in the bushes when the boat arrived !!

Fishable fish are rare, many are small...even at 30m ! and groupers seem to know music !

But the atmosphere is beautiful and very wild

Good luck

Maybe there is a national park in this area? I will ask the coast guard when I arrive if there are any forbidden areas.

If they tell me something about it, I will let you know. It's quite strange local fishermen would hide. Maybe they took too many fish

Spearfishing is allowed most of the places in Turkey within the limits. Antalya ,mediteranean region is second most attractive area for diving and spearfishing. There is a map shared in coast guard web page they update every year, you can check it from there, also the fish limits per day. Kas ,Kalkan region locals are not friendly for spearos we are not welcome there because it is one of the best scuba place in Turkey and they do not want their fish population to reduce. Yes you do need certification as far as i know for any kind of fishing activities in Turkey. İ live southern Aegean coast of Turkey İn Bodrum , if you plan a trip to come here you are welcome ,i will be happy to help you any way i can .
Take care , have a nice stay in Turkey

Thanks for the awesome info on spearfishing in Turkey, especially around the Antalya and Mediterranean region – sounds like a diver's paradise!

It's cool that there's a map on the coast guard web page to keep things in check, and good heads up about the Kas, Kalkan region.

Living in the southern Aegean coast of Bodrum sounds amazing! If anyone plans a trip your way, it's awesome to know they've got a friendly local contact. Your offer to help out is much appreciated! And hey, if you ever need help moving or know someone who does, check out https://threemovers.com/. Take care and happy spearfishing!
