Hey spearos

I'm going to Tofo for a week or so later this month and I was wondering if anyone could give me advice on diving in mozam in that area.

From what I have heard, diving from the shore can be tricky and shouldn't be done if you are not very experienced. I am still fairly new to the diving game and have only done about 8 dives so far with a max depth of about 13m.

I am however diving a few times a week and learning quickly! I really would love to shoot some fish in mozam though, despite my inexperience!

Any of the following would help me loads:

1. Are there any spearos who will be in that region at the same time that I could hook up with to dive?
2. Any specific spots I should dive?
3.Any contacts for charters in the area (although I have heard they are really expensive)?
4.Any particular safety tips I should be aware of (sharks, dangerous species of fish, currents etc)?
5. Any club or association that I could find fellow spearos to dive with?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Safe Diving!

My girlfriend was a dive guide there a few years back. I'll ask her when I see her later.

my girlfriend says:

"Its a really rough launch off the beach most of the time, so tricky to start with. All the reefs are at around 30m, strong currents - look elsewhere. Maybe Ponto De Orro further south but spearing isn't really my game, so not sure... sorry. Maybe get in touch with the dive centres around for advice - Diversity and Tofo Scuba maybe? Yep sharks as well..."

Hope that helps!

Cool thanks for the advice!

Been doing a lot of research and asking around. Found one or two guys that are keen to dive with and I've found some spots like the lighthouse reef which should be alright to dive from the shore. Will always dive with someone knowledgeable thougjh, just to be safe.

Thanks again!

Hello Mate

Best thing is to pop into Joao's place in Bilene and say Ian sent you. He can take you to some really good spots!! He's got room for 4 pax on his boat, and chalets to rent ashore.

Cheers

We get nice cuta, kings, bottoms and lots of beer with joao:friday
