Hi all,

Music on my underwater mp3 player makes my training sessions a lot nicer. Now I would very much like to use it as a timing device for my CO2 DYN's, imagine recording an mp3 file called DYN4x25m50s.mp3, containing:

"Prepare for 4 laps of 25m dynamic, starting every 50 seconds.
Off in 10 seconds, .... 5 4 3 2 1 BEEP
.... (40 secs later) ....
Off in 10 seconds, .... 5 4 3 2 1 BEEP
.... etc.
"

and the next song in my playlist would then be DYN4x25m45s.mp3 etc.

What I need: An mp3 recording program, that allows me to copy sound samples like countdowns, beeps, spoken instructions and paste them at certain positions.

Preferably freeware, if possible running on a Mac ;-)

Just spoken instructions can be pretty boring. It would be nice to mix the training instructions with regular music. Nice to have.

Another use for it would be as a 'pacer', sounding a beep for every arm, leg or fin stroke. I don't have a coach to correct me and my strokes are irregular, so a bit like:

Prepare for 50m DNF, 3 strokes per lane in xx seconds, 5 4 3 2 1
kick ... ... arms .... legs .... arms ... legs ... arms ... TURN ..
kick ... ... arms ... etc.

I could prepare DNF sessions with 5 4 3 or 2 arm & leg strokes per 25m

Yet another great use would be STA tables...

Any suggestions what program I could use in order to achieve this?

Thanks a lot!

'Garage Band' is very easy to use and lets you multi layer music, speech etc. I thought it came as standard on all macs.

You can simply drag and drop MP3s into it, then cut them up, copy paste move around etc.

Easiest way to record voice is with you phone I guess.

Let us know how you get on and any creative ideas you come up with. And how it affects your training of course!

I didnt know under water mp3 players existed, how do they sound? I could possibly help out if needed, I have a recording studio and would definately like to test some of this out!

We sometimes use underwater speakers during training, they sound pretty good actually! I like listening to music personally but it's not everyone's taste.

Try Newton Faulkner's cover of 'Teardrops' (Massive Attack) during freediving, it's awesome... (you can find it on YouTube)
