Wow what a nice gift!!! What are you using before? I find the specs very similar to the cressi edy 2 and the Edy 2 is cheaper.I'm planning to get the D4 also but the Edy 2 is making me think twice. Pls let us know how it goes. The computer is the last equipment i need to enroll in your freediving course hehehehe, any Christmas offers in your freediving course?

Sara I have one too i think its a great watch and computer I haven,t used the scuba mode yet but am planning to sell my vyper as the d4 is doing all I want at present. I like it as a watch too. My only complaint is no kind of pool mode i use an ordinary stop watch for that as the depth in the pool varies so it switche in and out of dive mode etc but that really nitpicking at this stage. Any one I know that has one seems to get on with it and have had no problems like with the d3 so far. Nice pressie to get.

Hey All,

I bought a D4 earlier this year just in time for Will's VB2008 comp. Loved it and it performed perfectly for me all the way through. I found it easier to use than the borrowed D3 and Mosiquto that I had before then. The default depth for the D4 is 100m, which suits me fine (for now hehe) but Will had a D4 bought in for the comp that was reprogramed by Suunto to go deeper than 100m. The only difference was that the depth increments below 100m were in 1m steps.

I especially liked to use the dual alarms so that I had one set for mouth fill and the other set for warning of the plate (5m higher than plate was set).

The only thing I found was that sometimes with the watch on my wrist, the alarms were a little quiet and on the odd occasion I would not hear them at all, although, the watch shipped with a expansion strap which meant that I could strap it to my shoulder so that it was near my ear. I did this once, but I was too scared to dive with it like this for fear of losing it as it went loose when I tried it.

The graphical showing on the watch is great.

I have had issues with the software on the laptop, but I think thats attributed to Windows Vista more than anything.

I hope you enjoy your D4 as much as I do Sara

Yes it looks fine. One thing that disturbs me enormously at D4, though, is that it does not have user exchangeable battery. Murphy's law tells that the battery will always stop to work just when you need it most. I can confirm that it is really true, and always was so with my Mosquito. The difference to D4 (that you have to sent into the workshop) was that you could buy the battery in every supermarket and exchange in 1 minute.

My stinger is the same.. doesnt bother me. i have had it since 2003 and changed the battery only 2x. I send it away, get it back in a day, usually during the week when i am not diving :)

I bought mine during this years summer on Cyprus..it works great and i don't have any problems with it..
As you write the battery will be a problem..especially back in POland where it is hard to fins an official Suunto workshop but i don't worry about it now..still it shows "Battery OK":D
Cheerse

Back in a day? I'd be really surprised, unless there is a local store where you bring it in and then pick up again. Normally, you need to count with at least a week. And even if you use express overnight parcel service (if available in your location), you need to count with minimally 3 days, which can already ruin your trip. And if you are just traveling on some remote island, you can forget about sending it completely. It happened to me at least three times in such locations. Fortunately replacing the battery with Mosquito was no hassle.

I know but still i've used my for almost 2 months so i hope the battery will work a bit longer..
And even the battery problem i think the D4 is the best freediving computer..as red on Deeperblue and the guy in the shop told me the same..

i told one of my mates about the D4 and he couldnt understand why i was given a bulldozer rofl

Yeah, I got one while I was in singapore a few months back. much better than my d3. no problems so far.
