I am thinking of getting into spearfishing. I am looking at some Mako gear(predator pro 110). Could someone please explain to me the difference between closed and open muzzles? I don't know which one to choose. I have enough freediving gear and all i need is a gun and reel. Also what's the deal with bands? I understand it's different levels of power, but i still don't understand the levels.
Thanks

A closed muzzle is easier to use. You stick the back of the shaft in it and push until it locks into place. With an open muzzle you need to wrap the shooting line over the shaft and around the muzzle to hold it in place, and then keep it in place while loading the gun

The benefit of an open muzzle is better vision when aiming at a fish. Much easier for aiming.

Bands are self explanatory. For most humtess one 16 mm band for a gun with a 6.5 mm shaft, a 18 or 19 mm band for a gun with 7 mm shaft, and 2 X 16 for a gun with 7.5 mm shaft. With experience you may decide to change the bands, based on experience and personal preference.

A mistake many spearos make at one time or another is overpowering a gun. It is likely to leave you with poor performance, deteriorated accurancy, and some times, due to vibrations, less performance.

The Mako gear seems to be good stuff.
