Sorry for the loss of a friend. Keep the memory alive in your heart and by your actions.

Spearfishing Cubans are brave if sometimes foolish, because of the political state there, they have virtually no boats to go out and fish. What they do is swim out from shore to the hunting ground, beyond the reefs. Its not unusual for them to go sometimes 7-8 hrs out at sea. That's how I met Willy I ran into him in the open ocean. As a tourist I have access to a boat but not the Cubans.
We have faced together curious and hungry Tiger and Bull sharks, he was knowledgeable and calm in all those situations we encountered. He would leave them enough fish to leave us alone.
He went out 3 weeks ago as he usually does at 5 am and never came back. There was no search party, 2 of his buddies went out the next day to look for him without a boat. I spoke to 1 of them they found no trace of him.
Thank you for your kind words, I find it tough to realise that we will never go fishing together. We have known each other for over 10 years. I usually go to Cuba every 2 months.
I will miss him..

Very sorry for your loss - really sad to realise too just how many basic things we take for granted.

thanks guys
just found a pic of him and his homemade cuban speargun
