Well, it was inevitable, I suppose....the battery in my D3 finally crapped out. So, what are my options? Will a jeweler even know what to DO with this thing? I really HATE the thought of sending it in to have the battery replaced...

The D3 has a user replaceable battery. It is really easy and I have done mine twice. You can order replacements with a new o-ring at the deeperblue store for cheap.

Your local chemist or drug store usually has the batteries.I just use a coin and open it up swap it and thats it. It should keep your max dive and clear everything else.

You can just swap the battery but If you go to a reputable dive shop (deeperblue for instance) to get the battery you should ask for a service pack for a few quid that includes an o-ring, and a new protective case. Its worth an extra couple of quid for piece of mind.

Then just keep your fingers crossed :)

I went to Long's drugstore and bought a Duracell 2032 battery (medical) for $2 and replaced the battery right there at the watch/photo counter. The staff provided me with little flathead screwdrivers to pry off the cap once I used a penny to twist the cap to the open position. I have changed the battery about 5 times in two years with no problems. I lubed the o-ring once in two years with silicone grease.

Just be sure that when you twist the cap to the open position with a coin or something, you push in as much as you twist. If you just twist, you can strip the cap a bit, but it still works.

Be careful the first time, the cap can get stuck, probably because of twisting without pushing in hard enough, Unirdna had that problem, finally use a dremel tool. Mine is stuck too, and its about time for replacement. Wish me luck.
