Hi everybody!

Iam from Croatia,mediteranian town Rijeka.
I am 18yrs,188cm tall and 70kg weight.
My Total Lung Capacity is 7.5L.

I start to freedive this summer, june, july, august and I was amazed by this sport!
In august i decide to train hard.
Now I train every day except sunday for about 5 months.
My training is something about this:

150 different tipe push ups,
4 kilometres running,
Walking with periods of apnea (specific training)

Now please tell me,because I am newbie in this,do you all think this is good training or what? It is combination of aerobic and anaerobic training, and I think it is good till the summer come.

Thank you very much!

Are you training specifically for freediving (as opposed to general fitness) you can do more specific training for sure. Search on DB, there are so many threads on training - and remember, never freedive or train apnea in water without a competent buddy watching you.

So I have to work more specific training for freediving?
Is it my current training good?

And of course, never, never, never dive alone! :)

Thanks for answers!

Apart from general fitness, I don't think the pushups help in freediving. Although there are different opinions on running, I think being fit cannot be such a bad thing for any sport - usually it's good to run in the initial months of training and switch to more specific training as you are approaching a competition or simply the diving season.

Are you doing any exercises like apnea tables and so on?

Yes i do Co2 and O2 tables...
-butt isnt that push ups and other gim exercises are good anaerobic training that increase body tolerance to raised co2?

What YOU suggest for the specific running? I use Umberto Pelizzari´s Manual of freediving...

:)

I think Umberto knows better than me :) having said this everyone's body is different so you have to try things out, understand the principles involved and practice what works for you.

Spending time in the water is important - the more relaxed you become the more progress you will make. There are many exercises described in Umberto's book that you can try - also improving your technique can make a massive difference. Instead of running, why not try swimming instead if you can?

Personally I think at this stage it will help you more than running will...

Hi Mandov,

I do not recommend apnea walks. Your energy would be much better spent on other things. Gentle static tables, simulated pool dives, strength training, interval running, and most of all actual diving if possible.

I offer an e-coaching program if you are interested.

I am a distance runner (marathon) and I think that a mix of aerobic (distance running, swimming) and anaerobic (sprints, weights ect. ) will defiantly help you, it's all about the healthiness of your body, I think you should keep up what your doing, but don't spend more energy on that than actual apnea. Exercise is vital to keep your heart healthy and increase efficiency of oxygen stores. However this is all wasted if you don't not correctly practice apnea ( do you think any top athletes can free dive deeper than 45ft? Unlikely )

But if I've learned one thing a large percent of your potential is mental, and being in the water

I ran before I became an apnea enthusiast and have found it quite easy to pick up

Eric and some others on here can give you excellent advice, some of the top freedivers in the world are on DB - don't be fooled by the DB forum stats either to figure out who's who :)

My one piece of advice for you would be to make enjoyment the central goal of your apnea training - make sure you have fun and enjoy freediving, numbers will come and unless you want to seriously compete, they don't matter anyway.

All the best mandov, you have the height which usually helps - I'm guessing some strength training would help too, 70kg is not much for your height.

Push ups and pull ups are good for no fins dissiplines.

But best you can do is to find a friend visit regulary a pool.

Thank you :)

I agree with you,70 kg is nothing compare to my height!
I am so tall and skinny, long arms and long feet.

I suggest a lot of experimenting and learning your mind and body.
Your focus should be on learning, not on 'numbers'.

Having buddies, and some other tools to help to develop an expert level swim and relaxation technique. Plan on visiting competitions and do some couch surfing sharing some training time with others. Make some money to get some professional freedive education and coaching. It's a good investment and allows you to learn vital skills the correct way in a very short time.

Have fun, eat well and rest enough!

Kars,

thanks for advices,I am gonna follow that :)

I want to go on AIDA ** freediver course,Melita Adany is instructor...what do you think about that? is better than CMAS courses or?

The quality of the instruction is mostly relent upon the quality of thinking of the instructor and pupil.

Thinking is very much a big part of becoming great at anything.

Thinking is "the process of identification". Learning is about questioning, testing, identifying what works when for you.

This site may be helpful to find and expand your ability to think in a logical, rational way: Trivium Education.com | Where Knowledge, Understanding and Wisdom Begin

In short I think if you're smart you'll be able to choose your teacher well. Think about what qualities you want your teacher to have? What is it you want to learn? What do you need to learn?

It's impossible for me to tell you what teacher is good for you because 1) I don't know you, 2) I don't know the teachers. But with some time and consideration I'm sure you can identify your person and needs and communicate with potential teachers to see if they fit your needs.

Love, Courage and Water,

Kars
