That is a TON of work, to allow you to swim with your camera / smart phone!!

Definitely quality craftsmanship. I know a bit about waterproof watches / cases. You should pressure test it to see how well it seals / holds up.

Watches utilize screw-down crowns with their o-rings for more than 150m WR.

What is the drive to get this thing underwater, as opposed to a go-pro camera? Is it the challenge?

Exactly my thoughts, very nice housing but this Nokia model does terrible video and it's not HD. This setup would be very cool 5 years ago, but today with $240 GoPro FULL HD, 60p, 80+m depth.....

But I have to say that despite painful locking mechanism this housing is a high quality work. It was nice to see the making process and control buttons with tiny O-rings, that's impressive for DIY project. If You could only make housing for better device I'd have few camera ideas for You:)

Thank you on your comment, I worked 5 days for about 7 hours every day. I made it because I like to make things and I am interested will it work corectly from the first time (I think it will for 10 m depth, I do not need more). I know that video quality of Nokia is not something special but for me it will be OK, advantegase of Nokia is that I need only two buttons to control all I want (turn on and of and start and stop recording) and I have screen so I can point camera on things that I want. Second reason is why I made it to show people who are interested how can they do it if they have will, tools and materials. I will test housing with no phone on higher depts so if there will be no water inside for me test is passed. I can put 2 O-rings on each button shaft if it will be necessary, bigger O-ring serves only as a spring.

:)

I watched the whole vid with great interest, nice machinery & it must be nice to work with acrylic instead of metal.
I am primarily a woodworker but I would love to own a milling machine & make something like that.
Most of all I was very impressed with the polishing technique!
I have never seen a flame gun used in that way before, cant wait to have a go at that myself :)
Thanks for posting....

Nice comment, thank you. I found how to polish plexigas on youtube, just search for polishing plexiglas, this was my first time to polish plexiglas like that and it is realy good technique.

Thanks for the video. I made my first underwater housing for a camera 43 years ago (no where near the quality that you produced, let me add) and the video brought back great memories. I still have that first case, the first 8 mm movie case and one of the u/w lights that I built, along with the memories.

Thank you for watching my video. :)

This is test that I made in lake called Jarun in Croatia. There was no water in housing, so it is good. Max depth that I could reach was 6 m. Video is not excelent qaulity but will be better when I go to sea.

In this video I was not aware that maximum quality of video was not chosen, this I recorded with maximum quality picture :

Max depth that I tested housing was 10 meters , probably it can go double with no problems but for now I can not :)

Fantastic! well done. Wish I had the patience and skill to complete a project like this.

Thank you very much :)

Here are pictures of final look of casing, I just rounded corners.

will it fit iPhone? You could upgrade in the future, with enough memory say 16 or 32GB You could just hit record, close it in housing and roll whole dive without worrying about record button location

This housing is custom made for my NOKIA 5230, so only that model can go inside. Same design can be applied for any other phone, it can be made with buttons like mine (I use 2 GB of memory, it is enough for 1.5 hours of recording) or with no buttons. But with buttons is better because sometimes phone blocks (software freezes) and then is necessary to shot down phone and turn it on again. Other thing is that I do not know can phone record continuously movie that have 32 GB, may be it can but it is safer to manually stop recording so the contain can be stored safely if something interesting is recorded.

Maybe I buy HD still camera so then I will made housing for camera.

For now this equipment is OK for me because I am beginner in diving and hunting so there is no many things to show and to be interesting to other peoples.

Thanks for 1 Like :)
