Hi,
Could anyone tell me where I can find a register with national records? On the AIDA website I found only WRs and then records divided in continents.

Thanks

Unfortunately the AIDA's database is not really very complete, and misses a big number of NR's. At many countries it does not show anything at all, You may need to hunt the results on the websites of the national branch. Jorg has just posted a list of pages with national records of many AIDA branches on his Shark-Freediving blog here: Every Freediving World and National Record | Shark Freediving But even the national pages are not always up-to-date at some nations.

This situation could improve with some modifications of the ranking database (Jome's AIDA Result Register), its interconnection with the record database (based on ApneaMania's data). Assuming the data from competitions and data records start flowing into the register without omissions and mistakes, it would not be to difficult to add an algorithm that would pick the best results and completed the world, continental, and national record tables. Some manual corrections or additions might still be needed, but the vast majority of the record would be caught automatically.

If now only the Result Officer AIDA plans to hire start working, and if only AIDA was more willing to accept proposed software solutions (Freedive Central and/or Open Source software)! If they did, we could have not only working ranking system, but also up-to-date national record charts since couple of years.

A little bit off the record but just a tiny comment about Aida record register. Original version of Jome´s record machine lives here: Ranking

Idea was born many years ago and it was to change our manual www-ranking system to database version. And the idea of our rankings is based on thought that anybody can show their personal bests in common place. Only couple of tiny details should be fullfilled (like Aida rules has to be followed and couple of persons who are capable to resque&know rules has to be available during the dive). Later on this system was enhanced to support competitions (so first it supported only individual rankings but later on also competitions). Now it separates those results automaticly and shows our national records automaticly (based only of competition data). UI may not be the perfect but system works.

So if I would have more time and effort I might suggest to think about that original idea also while developing these things for Aida. But a good thing is that as I do not have extra time and effort I´m not going to do that suggestion

Kimmo, nobody really suggests reinventing the wheel. That's why I proposed the idea of opening the source code of Jome's ranking system and the Freedive Central. If you made some extension's to Jome's database, it would be welcome too, of course.

Only such open source project will allow some decent progress, because more people can help, and we won't be dependent on individuals who often have no time, or no energy anymore to continue the work.

Heh, as usually I´m explaining things that way that nobody does not understand...

Only thing I was trying to tell was some kind of background of that system what may be developed as a OS project in a future = original version 1.0 is built by Teppo Kallio and Jome made version 2.0 because we asked, while Teppo was busy. And then some guy asked it for Aida. Next step is to go for OS project, I hope ...and the original versions 1.0 and 2.0, and the basic idea, had a support for personal bests (outside from a competitions). I really do apologize my bad communication and language skills

No problem, Kimmo. I do not think there was any serious misunderstanding. I share your opinions. Unfortunately I cannot tell the same about AIDA's executive officers. Bill Stömberg did not react on the proposals of an Open Source project, and Pim Vermeulen openly wrote that they do not consider opening the source code. It is in this thread on AIDA's forum (the access is limited to AIDA members - if you are one and cannot access it, let me know): http://www.aida-international.org/forums/showthread.php?p=597http://www.aida-international.org/forums/showthread.php?p=600
