Nice to meet you Daniel. So your new to the area huh? well I'd love to go spear some fish with you. Oh great can't wait lets shoot for tuesday of next week I think we might get a decent dive day around then. Water needs to settle a bit from the rain and waves. Sounds good. I will call you monday night and well give it a go. Cool.. later...

LOL Patience Daniel! For some reason (perhaps everyone is out diving) this place is very quiet over the weekend :(

ok i'm not in NC right now, but i will be in Dec. I'm in iraq right now. :waterwork , plenty of sand no beach. I'm stationed at ft bragg. I'd like to meet up with some freedivers on the east coast. I'm originally from hawaii, that's where all my gear is. But after i get back to NC from vacation i'll bring all my stuff. Do i need anything diffferent, gear wise, to spearfish the east coast? I use a picasso3mm suit, 110cm eurogun w/reel. obviously i can't bring my kayak with me so do you do shore dives or boat dives?
I'm just counting down the days till i get get back into the beautiful warm pacific ocean. I'm constantly visiting spearfishing/freeding sites to quell my boredom.

Alf808, Hey I think your choice in guns should be fine for most if not all the shore diving, you might want to look into a game gun later on if you start doing some off shore stuff. Dive suits, Hmmm I think in december you will need at least a 5mil water temp is still in the high 70s but that will change soon.

so where are places i can check out? i have a buddy of mine that want's to get into freedive spearfishing. We can go as far away as south carolina or to virginia i guess. we're both army medics, so it's always good to have us around. probably in the month of february or march we can start diving in NC. I'll be in hawaii for a month between mid dec and mid jan. then i have to get resettled at bragg. I'll bring up my gear, as far as a big game gun is concerned, i also have a 50in hybrid daryl wong gun. i shoot a 9/32 shaft with it and two bands. do you think this will be enough? what's the temp like in jan-mar? will i be able to get away with my 3mm suit with an inner suit as well. i can just grit it out till it gets warmer. any of you guys have boats?
i've got so many questions but i can't think of them all right now. what area are you guys from? what kinda game is out there, so i can start researching. allright till next time dive safe and dive aloha

unfortunatly I wont be that much help to you on several points, I just moved here from Socal. Some of the others may be able to help you there. I'm as in the dark on several issues concerning places and fish. I know that at least in NC were not allowed to spear "reddrum" that fish has several diffrent names depending on who you talk to and where. I'm thinking most of the offshore fish will be african pompano, amber jack, kings, reds, grouper, spanish, etc...
shore diving maybe flounder, sheephead, smaller pompano, cobia, blue fish, thats all I know I'm still trying to figure it all out myself.

I'm very familier with the gun you mentioned very nice gun a couple of guys i know have them and they swear by them, daryl wong makes some beautiful stuff...

Your a better man than I am 3mil in feb I think is going to be a little tough, my best guess is low 50s...

Just a suggestion before you bail Hawaii make sure you grab an extra set of bands for both your guns and wish bones as well it's not easy finding stuff like that here, you will end up having it shipped from somewhere might just save you some aggrivation until you find the right hookup.
I live in Holdan Beach about 35miles south of wilmington and 40 miles from Little river inlet in South Carolina.
So far I've only dove the wrightsville beach area.
Definetly get your buddy squared away, he will love it. pick the best day possible for the first dive 25+vis and no swell, that should get him hooked.

So what's the underwater terrain like out there in the Wrightsville area? Have you been diving a lot there recently? How's the vis most of the time? Do you just swim out from shore? Have you been offshore? I'm thinking about getting a 5mm suit, will that do?

Hey, welcome to NC. I moved out here from San Diego a SOF Navy dive medic teaching at FT BRAGG. Not a crime, Wilmington just 2 hrs and Hatteras 4.5 hrs. Great diving and spearing. I'm in YUMA,AZ doing the HALO thing for a couple weeks, but drop me a line. YUMA is 2 hrs from LAJOLLA so guess where I'll be on the weekends? Out.
