Neck weights

What do you guys use to fill your neck weights and where do you get it from? Someone told me it is hard to find the lead to put in them here in Ohio. I am hoping to have a neck weight building night later this week
 
I just use bb's from wal mart sporting goods section, they are steal now but still work, my first weight was 4lbs and used copper coated lead bb's, recently made a 6lbs with the steal bb's
 
I can't get lead shot in Belize so I've used BBs. The corrode really fast though.
 
hi mike - its very easy actually, you can use a couple of soft weights from scuba. if you don't have a dive shop near where you live - you can easily order these online (ebay) - you just have to cut them open to get the pellets out so you can fill your neck weight (really small inner tubes work well with a clasping buckle at the end.)

Some things i found help build a bullet proof neckweight:
- use a double innertube, one smaller inside a larger one
- when closing the ends up around the clips; tie them (dental floss is great!!), superglue them flat shut, then wrap (just the closure) with good quality electrical tape. The super glues seals, no more lead-water pouring out. Mine has never filled with water BUT I have never used it for depth
- when filling with one end closed, fill with shot, insert compressor hose and inflate a little, shot will settle and compact, then fill some more. The compressor is only for temporary inflation to allow shot to settle.

I made mine two years ago and its been used 2x week since then and still looks great. Now, if I could just persuade it to get me a little further in dyn that would be great....
 
Never glue your neck load. As long as you train your lungs stretches more and more. So, ones per several months you need to add a little bit for good buoyancy. Double tube is good for newbie only with small (less then 2 kg) neck load.
 
Osuim, you can pry the super glue open quite easily, it just sort of "peels" open.
 
i used a single inner tube from dowhill MTB, nearly 2mm thick and made of rubber, not butyl
very strong and just a little bit less flexible than others (but i filled it up with 3kg and kept it very short)
 
When determining the length of the neck weight, how much clearance do you typically try to achieve between your neck and the weight? For DYN, I would guess that wouldn't be a critical measurement, but in an inverted position, you would want the weight to rest comfortably on your chin?

Gold has a pretty high density and might work perfectly

i guess it's all about your own comfort

my DYN weight (3kg) is thick and long compared to my CWT's
i wear it with weight above the neck and clip under my chin and it leaves about 10 cm (3") from my throat to the clip

my CWT weight is just 1kg and it ties almost perfectly arond my neck
i wear it upside down, with weight on my trhoat and the clip behind
being perfectly sized, it almost doesn't move while diving

camping stores, ebay, where they sell sewing stuff...

I just picked some up locally (2 sizes just in case). If you can't find something local to you, let me know and I'll buy a couple more and mail them to you.
 
you've allready gotten one, but I get them at thrift stores I like extra wide ones of luggage its easier to get the tube through
