Hi guys and gals,

My name is George and I have just signed up to deeperblue. I love swimming, diving, snorkeling and water sports in general. I have been researching fins for over three days and I can't seem to find the information or answers I am looking for so i decided maybe some of you can come to my rescue. I swim daily, or used to, and I bought a pair of Churchills ( I probably sound like a complete amateur which I am) here in the UAE. These were the best investment I had made to date, so much fun, fast, relaxing...it made swimming much more fun. I usually swim anywhere I can, pools, sea, etc... Although I still love my fins, I want to move on to something new. I want to buy fins for normal swimming, I preferably would like to try monofins and I want to know what I should buy...I was looking at some expensive fins like, Leaderfins and Waterway, but I dont want to dish out that much cash, just to realize I cannot use the fins for whatever reason...basically I want fins to swim recreationally and for training (butterfly, crawl, etc)...I want to go fast, build swimming muscles, and have a good time...I do not mind spending extra money if it means I will get results, I just want to know which fins would suit my purpose...to sum it up more easily as I may be rambling:

I need fins to swim (butterfly, crawl, finswimming, etc)
I want to go fast, I want to build/tone muscles...(I can swim with my Churchill's for hours so I think I can use pretty much any fin if it comes down to leg strength....)
Built to last
High prices are fine if they are worth the added benefits
I want to have fun!!! (probably sound like a bimbo, which I am NOT)

For example, I am assuming one cannot use a DOL-Fin to just swim normally in the sea or in a large pool or can I???

Any suggestions will be very much appreciated and I hope I did not sound like an idiot...if any of you are ever in the UAE (Dubai & Abu Dhabi) you can also let me know...I could show you around, help out, etc...

Sounds like you will like Nemo-Wing monofin from Bogdan (waterway).

I have one for almost three years now, thoroughly enjoyed, was one of my best investments in this sport. While probably not really high performing, they are fun, slick and comfortable, and most importantly not expensive. Also, cost of equipment is simply a matter of priority, if you love this sport you will enjoy having a good fins, good mask, computer, knife etc. Life is long, buy one good piece at the time and you will not notice the financial pressure.
