Hi there, I'm on a road trip from Cairns down to Sydney over a two week period as of tomorrow and I have all my spearing gear with me and would like to get some time in the water up around the great barrier reef area as I've never been up that way. Are there some good spots/towns along the coast where I can jump in and have a go? I don't have a boat so I will need to dive areas that are accessible by foot or by road. Any tips on keeping away from salt water crocs would also be great!

Cheers!

Lots of great diving up there, the best in the world IMO, but you are going to need a boat to dive until you are in northern NSW. We have had some big rains in NSW recently so hopefully the mud clears for you or you will also need a boat to get to wide reefs.
