I live in New Jersey and most of our spearfishing is on jetties/rocks and wrecks. vis is generally <20ft. I currently use a small JBL but it lacks the penetration I need for shots over 6-7 feet. I was either thinking of upgrading to the JBL sawed off Magnum XHD or trying an OMER HF2 80cm. Both seems nice...and I know they are two totally different guns. Can anyone sort out the pros and cons based on experience?

I wild be look for a 75cm euro or a simmilar size pneumatic for that type of shooting. when I hunt dark water around rocks thats what I use. the JBL's will work, but they are just so clunky. I used a NW Special JBL for many years but passed it on to a new diver when i discovered the bliss that was Euro guns ;)

Of those two, get the HF2. I have the HF and love it. Swap out the band and put a dyneema wishbone on it though.

The Hf2 is a nice looking gun and shoots like a laser but the only thing I would advise is that make sure you get a sturdy gun. A budy of mine has the HF Omer and has only had it for a short amount of time but it looks pretty beat up already. Maybe you will be nicer to your stuff than he is but definatley do some research. oh and... dont get the JBL:blackeye

The HF's paint nicks up pretty good. That is one reason for ditching the metal wishbone. But if your sticking the gun into holes and crevasses then it's going to show the wear and tear. The handle and trigger group are still very solid.

I've got a little Riffe MT0 for sale - $300 with extra stuff. Not as intuitive aiming as a euro gun - but very versatile and ridiculously sturdy.
