I want to get myself back into shape for the Abalone season here in Nor-Cal. I have been out of the water for over a year due to a blown out knee. Got it fixed in August and it's almost 100%. My goals are as follows:

1. Lose the 25 lbs I have aquired while injured through salacious hombrew consumption. I know I can do this with my normal training routine.

2. My best static is 3:46. I want to improve on this.

3. My max depth is 60ft. I want to improve on this. Additional depth is secondary to additional time at this depth. Trying for 1:30 to 2:00 at 60ft. I found a spot while on SCUBA at this depth with REALLY BIG abalone.

4. Gain an understaning of O2 and Co2 tables, what they are for, how they work, and how to use them.

Any tips, hints, suggestions, or direction to help me out would be greatly appreciated. TIA

i dont want to put you down, but i think you should train for the NEXT season. by the way, i havent done any training for about 3 months, and i noticed my times went up (and became easier). i think that tis is because i gave my body time to recover from all the training, but 1 year is a different story. if you want to lose weight, i suggest you get a monofin because that will melt those pounds off.

there isnt much you can do with your static except rain really hard and constantly push yourself to your limits -theres no easy way out of that one. remember to do alot of apnea jogging, that should speed things up and give you a beter final time.

after you work on your static go and do some underwater swimming (horizontal) in the local pool. once your dynamic is at least 70 feet (nothing too hard, but i suggest you push it farther) you can go back to the open water, its easier to dive deep because of oxgen condensation, so div to 30 feet, come up and see how you feel. if it felt relatively easy, go to 40. increase this in increments of 10 feet (if you make too many dives youll exaust you internal O2, so its best to do it quickly) if you come up and you feel like that took alot of effort, dont go farther. record how far you went. the next day 9or later that day) 5 feet less than that distance, then the previous distance, and then move up in increments of 3-4 feet (remember to take a 5-10 minute breathing break between dives).

sorry i dont have any O2/ Co2 tables, but i think ive given plenty of info for you. and sorry for any spelling, i type to fast to be accurate and i dont proofread.

Good luck -Matt
