Hello, I recently just purchased an '94 Riffe speargun, but I am not quite sure what it is. It looks like an Island, but it doesn't have a mid-handle. Also was wondering what it's value is as well, along with the reel. Thanks again

Barrel to end of butt: 65"
Serial: 394501
Safety mechanism: Pull out tab

It looks like the second largest "standard/basic" gun produced by Riffe back then. He came to one of our club meetings in Sydney about this time, & he was a member previously when he lived down here, he is a nice bloke. It could worth more to a collector as it still has the original safety & hasn't seen much use if any. Please get rid of the stainless cable on the spear if you do use this, good mono like Ande 400lb mono is just as good on large fish, without the safety issues.

Yeah I was just thinking the same thing on the since it could wrap around slice something nasty. Did the old standards have that groove in that runs along the barrel? I feel like I haven't seen anything like that on the new ones, unless i'm mistaken.

Yes they did from memory.

I somehow have neglected to acquire one of these for my own collection, & looking at the photos of yours makes me feel like I need to correct that error & try to acquire one from the same vintage for myself. Though the "Island" would be my preferred as a wall hanger.

Nice pick up!

Well if you were interested in it I wouldn't be oppose to a trade/offer for it..

I am actually looking for a Riffe Euro traveler. The vintage standard is a little too big for my style and in the market for something to travel with abroad.

Thanks mate, I think I should be able to find an Island closer to home. (I know I'll live to regret this.) These guns became available down here just at the time when we enjoyed affordable & easy access to the reefs in the Coral Sea way beyond the Barrier Reef. There were a lot sold down here & the Island would be the most representative of a Riffe a gun for an Australian collection.

If you are trading it, I hope it goes to a good home. It is a collectable & in nice condition & will only become more valuable in time.

Sharkey
