Riffe. Never liked Omer guns myself. Never used a riffe but from what Ive seen and heard they seem strong and powerful. What models are you looking at though?

Mate, if your targeting fish 30 to 70 kg then I wouldn't be starting with a tube gun. Something that throws a 3/8 (10mm) spear about 6ft (1.8m) long with 3 stout rubbers is were I'd be starting, this is still good to at least 100kg. Sure many fish over 30kgs are landed with light gear, but its not the wisest choice.

This has always been my own experience with spears & now that I've been watching quite a few "go pro" clips from folks who have been making trips into the Coral Sea lately I'm seeing others with the same experience. These video's are great for seeing the weakness in & failure of gear. The greatest fail I'm seeing on fish the size you describe is the tube guns with 7mm or 5/16 spears failing to penetrate, were as the 3/8 shafts punch through more consistently.

IMO the tube or Euro style guns with 7 & 8mm spears do their best work on fish smaller than 30kgs.

Cheers Sharkey

Wait so you want a big gun to take down big fish, but it has to be easy to load abd real powerful?? Sorry ma, there is no such gun...doesnt exist.

Yes. They are built to handle big fish. :)

On the other hand, I do use and like Omersub spearguns and suggest that you consider, for example, this one: https://forums.deeperblue.com/threads/omer-cayman-special-edition-interesting-configuration.104887/
It has: 3-bands for power (distance & penetration of big/hard fish, 14mm rubbers for easy loading, sharkfins & dyneema wishbones for easier/safer loading.

Or how about combining the 2 ideas above (railgun + 3x14mm bands) and get a 3-band Mako railgun with 3x14mm bands from our friends in the USA? (Or 2x16mm or 1x18/19/20mm...actually, for a railgun using bulk rubber, 1x16mm can work very well too).

Also worth a look: Beuchat Marlin.
