hey all,

i spearfish at Egypt (Red Sea) , i just installed a reel for my beauchat speargun, do i need to keep the bunjie attached or should i take it off ??
and is it ok to shoot with the reel closed if i need to shoot medium fish or fo i have to always keep it open ?

if anyone has any tips or techniques that might help me as a new reel user. :D

cheers all..

You can do both. I have had my guns with reels rigged both with and without bungee. It's personal preference. Just remember to have your usual loops of line on the line release.
I sometimes tighten the break on the reel when I'm hunting smaller fish and/or don't want the reel in action. It easy to loosen it again if needed.

cheers man !

this was very helpfull , going on a spearing trip in 2 days to try out my new reel.. i think ill keep it tightened when hunting small fish.

but ive always thaught the the reel might break from the tourque of the spear if its fully closed

Alfy, you still need a wrap or wraps for the shooting line. The reel only comes into play if you need to play the fish or head for the surface.
enjoy your trip...

Bring a couble of chrimps and what you need, so you can try some different setups and see what you prefer.
No, I don't think you can break the reel. Just remember to put your normal couble of loops (wraps) on the line release as Jonny has clarified.
Good luck!
