Need the name of a greek god

or are you thinking of the Greek legend of Icarus... who tried to fly but got too close to the sun and his wings melted and he fell to Earth and died?

Hermes (messenger of the gods, winged sandals)

Icarus, Daedalus (not a god, they made wings of wax and feathers and Icarus flew too close to the sun)

I'll try and find more!

Hermes! That is the one I couldn't think of! Hermes = Mercury in Roman mythology IIRC

Ouch! The thought of a cold wax sends chills down my spine and I haven't ever had to deal with one, hot OR cold.....
