Hi, I just bought a RA 90cm gun, but the rubber is perished, there are some salt in the trigger mech. The orginal rubber is 20mm, and 35 cm long (on 1 side)

I'd like to change the rubber to a 16mm but dont know how long should i get. (I owned an omer 90 but had to change 16mm rubbers coz the 18mm that came with it was so hard to load)

I also would like to strip it apart, ie the trigger mech n give it a good clean. but i haven't done it b4, are there anything that i should know b4 unscrew it? there are this plastic pins that goes thru it, which direction should i push it? and can i put it back together or do i have to get a new pin?
Cheerios.

Not sure about taking a handle apart. I've never had to do it. I just soak them well before putting them away. The cassette with the moving parts comes off the top, but that's all I know about it.
If you are worried, write to him directly at

Rob says 51 cm for a 16 mm band, knot to knot for a 90 cm gun (I asked him recently).

Now that you have the length for the bands, you're set. Here's the formula for figuring out band length. Mearsure from band hole to closest loading notch, this gives you your guns band stretch length, divide that by 3(band stretch should be 3 times the band length) and multiply that by 2. For example: my riffe has a 40" band stretch lenght, 40/3= 13.3 rounded off 13x2=26, 26" bands. Thats for looped bands. 13 for tie in bands.

Here is the Rob Allen band sizing guide I use.

Cheers,
Claudio

RA are so fun to use and once you get use to load them it's really not that hard.
I got a sutu 90mm, 1300mm and a zulu 1600mm. All of them are set with 2x16mm bands
It's very personal but I rather use two small bands so you can unload one if you're getting to close from the bottom or the rocks.
It is really not much longer to load. Cause in fact stretching the bands are not even 10% of the reloading time. It's all about putting your shaft and lines back in place. Which is another really good thing about there open nozzle,
you can run you string on either sides of the head.
The only thing that sucks with RA it's the safety and it sucks bad. So I glued a piece of plastic that avoid your gloves to slip over it and then you know by the touch when it safe or not.

Good luck:)

Hopefully this is understandable, cause English isn't my language

I put the safety in the off position on both of my old style RAs. Then I drilled a hole through the plastic safety next to the body and pushed through a piece of stainless wire. I looped the wire around itself so it won't come off, and I now have a gun that is always ready to go. I have no safety, but keep it pointed in a safe direction.

That would be very scary to have a gun without safety, i bought one on ebay, and the guy sold it to me didtn' say that it didtn' ahve a safety mechanism. i got it but 2 scare 2 use it, so its just sitting there, n i dont want to sell it to anyone as they might hurt themselves.

The only safe gun is one that has the band/s unloaded. It's simple, don't point a loaded gun at anyone or anything you don't intend to put the spear through. Never rely on the gun's safety to avoid an accident.
