Do any of you use neti pots, and how frequently?

Which kind and where do you get them?

Used one about 4 hours ago me dear. Not a neti pot though, a NeilMed Medi rinse. Google it and you should be able to find a local distributor. It's a 250ml bottle that comes with sachets of salt/bicarb mix that does a great job of clearing out the sinuses.

Used to use it about once a week but not so much nowdays. In Nice last year for a competition I was getting a headcold so I was using it everyday and it got me through it... just.

Cheerio,
Ben

i did some web searches, it looks a bit weird. how was you first time?
(at the neti pot) ;)

Sorry we didn't get to dive together. Careful with the Kona coffee, it's adictive.
I made a 'neti pot' from a drinking bottle that had a nipple to fit my nostril. Leave it in the sun to keep warm. It took a few tries to get it working without swallowing or choking on some but now I use it every day. I found how to instructions on the first page google.

Nasally speaking...

Hey Bill, I'm damned sorry that we didn't get to hang out some more. It seemed that when you and I had a minute then it was time for me to go do something responsible. And then my phone puked and I just got your message along with Deron's. :head Time, time... I'm trying to upload some pics as I write and i'm getting a notice that the website is unavailable... Stay tuned. And Kerry said to say "Hi"', and she hopes you weren't put off by her not saying hello back when you rolled on by. She didn't know you and then when Annabelle did the same, well she didn't know what to make of the place.

Anyways my dear Sara, there's a little plug made for the WaterPik, that little dental pressure cleaner uses by those with braces on their Chiclets and with gum issues, that replaces the stock wand and you just place the plug under one nostril and flip the switch. Voila!, a pulsing little stream of warm, saline is now coursing through those pretty little nasal cavities of yours. I'll see if I can dig up the specs for it, but in the meantime, when you get home, head down to the local druggie and get a WaterPik.

how was you first time?
Well it was a bit weird, not too comfortable really - bit too wet for my liking. But once all the liquid was out, it felt great.

Oh the Neti pot?? Um...

Ok before I get banned - seriously it felt fine - if you get the salt mix and temp right it doesn't feel weird (ie. make your eyes water from the solution). The very first time quite frankly I was amazed and freaked at the amount of crud that came out. And your nose does leak for a bit afterwards. The good thing about the bottle is that it has an internal nozzle so you can hold it and squeeze and all the fluid will come out, you don't have to invert it. Makes it easy for holding over a sink.

Cheaper way is getting a Powerade/Gatorade/water bottle with a nozzle on it and using that, cheaper still is getting a glass of lukewarm, pre-boiled water, put about a teaspoon of salt in it, put a finger over one nostril and snort it up the other nostril, and vice versa. All does the same thing, though I think the MediRinse bottle helps flood the sinus better.

Cheerio,
Ben

:head I had to pull mine out of the drawer this week because my allergies started acting up. :(

I have a ceramic one and used to use kosher salt in in but have since switched to packets of this: SinuCleanse - the first word in Sinus Relief - Home
The main thing is not to use salt with iodine in it.

I lean over the sink and tilt my head down so that I can pour the water in one nostril and let it leak out the other- than reverse the nostrils. You can also go nostril to throat.

ben is right on the amount of crud that can come out and how much better you feel afterwards. Besides cleaning things out the salt also helps to reduce tissue swelling in your sinuses.

Hope all of you are having fun in Hawaii. My dive plans got cancelled this weekend as we are getting hit by a monster snow storm. :head
Should be more than a foot and a half of snow by time things are done and the winds are kicking up to make it especially nasty.

Jon,

I saw your post and decided to try the sinuCleanse squeeze bottle.

S'OK Sven. Next time we can 'talk story' over a tall root beer and watch the sun sizzle into the ocean. Hope Kerry understands. Don't get to have fun with a pretty young woman much and I figured you could explain. Annabel too, eh. That's a gas.
Aloha
Bill
