New Fin Brand from C4!!

Hi folks,

I was just at the C4 website to get more information on the Fuegos, which I am about to buy, and noticed a new brand of fin they are adding to their line up.

Per the website, these blades dedicated to fishing in apnea. They are a made of 47% T300 and 53% T700 carbon yearns and will be offered in 25 and 30 hardness (the Apnea model is only available in 25 soft). All blades have 24 degree angles, which would fit well with newer wider-angled footpockets like the Mares Razor and Omer Stingray. Though I don't know prices, these are being positioned to the younger diver and should be cheaper than the pure T700 C4 blades.

Ago, that's the official price list, but I bet that the fins will be sold significantly cheaper than that.
A typical feature of italian products is that the retail price ("prezzo al pubblico": the real price in shops) is always about 30% cheaper than the manufacturer's list price ("prezzo di listino").
For example, the "prezzo di listino" of the Cressi Gara professional is 157 euro, but you can find it cheaper than 110 euro in almost every shop. And this could apply to nearly any other product in any store. The "prezzo di listino" for an Omer HF2 80 is 199 euro, but you'll find it cheaper than 150 in any european shop...
Don't ask me why: Italians are strange people...

Back to Skorpio prices, I've seen the Skorpio Speeder blades at 190 Euros in a shop, but I expect to find them down to 170 or less anywhere else in Italy.

Yes they do look like good quality fins, no less than I expected. But this is only my visual impression, for what it's worth.

Skorpio's are actually made in the C4 facility at Airuno, Italy, where they've been making carbon fin blades for 18 straight years so far: they have the right experience, the right knowledge, the right machinery, and I guess they also have the pride not to spoil with a crap product their 18 years of positive reputation...

From what I read, what makes the Skorpio hopefully cheaper than C4 is the material, the type of carbon fiber.
Until 2007, all C4 carbon fins have been made with a carbon texture called T300, then after they discontinued the T300 and adopted a newer type, the T700, which is said to be more resistant, but obviously more expensive too. Every C4 blade being made now, since late 2007 (the Vgr series) is made of T700. And in facts, if you compare the old C4 with the new Vgr C4, the latter are more expensive.

I guess the company needed to offer a more affordable, budget friendly product too. So they started the Skorpio, whose blades are made of a mix of the cheaper T300 and a bit of T700 carbon fibers.
But when you say "cheaper T300", don't forget that it's the carbon fiber with which Martin Stepanek set his last Constant weight world record on bifins, the same with which Tom Sietas swam 232 meters dynamic with bifins, et cetera et cetera et cetera.

Now some could think that I work for C4, but, unfortunately, I don't...I'm giving them all this positive feedback for free. :duh
