New Fin Models on C4 site

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.

Hi folks,

I went today to the C4 site noticed they've added a new bi-fin and a monofin to their line up. (Kind of hard to miss them with the new footpocket color.) They are only showing pictures, no text explanation, but you can check them out at the links below. They both have a new shape for the flap.

C4 81 VGR:

I like the look of the Mono. I wonder how it performs? I know there was an earlier thread on a C4 Mono, this one looks a little different from the earlier one though.
 
Hmm yep we were talking about this a little while back (the revised version, which is the one on the sight) but not sure of the logic behind the shape but no doubt it will work ok, my reservation is how ugly it looks, but thats obviously a personal position. cant imagine this competing in performance with fins like triton Hyperfin, WW glide etc. but each to there own. if nothing else the pockets will be comfortable.

I wish they'd be more adventurous with the mono design and stop trying to stick 2 bifins together
 
yep, i guess they've just been so successful with there previous designs and havent really loked at how to advance mono design. i think it just shows there lack of experience in this particular field. shame really. that new fin of your still going well?

I like the new flap design at the end of the fin. Ooh, and I love the yellow!!:inlove
 
I wonder if the long "tongue" at the end of the 81 doesn´t make the fin harder to control? At the moment I can´t decide which fin to buy; Fuego or VGR.
 
They're talking about these fins on the Apnea Academy forum (italian version), and C4 owner Marco Bonfanti posted there to give some interesting info about the Mono-Flap.
Basically he says the purpose of the Mono-Flap design is to achieve the best in terms of maximum speed, not of acceleration. It's like saying that this fin is not intended for use in pool dynamics, but for "open space", he says: sounds like it's intended for Constant, "vertical" dives in general and, why not?, recreative use at sea.
Marco also says that his Mono-Flap requires to adapt your kicking style, to be "tight and continuous", in his words.
Finally he says that as soon as possible he will start to develop another mono to be specifically intended for pool dynamics.
This is everything I know so far.

Anyway it looks quite different from all the other monofins I've seen around...

what purpose does the "sticky out bit" serve? The falcons have the opposite concave bit.
 
I'm not sure how well the monofin will work, but the Mustang footpockets are the most comfortable footpokcets I've ever used.

One thing I've noticed with the fins is that my Mustang Flap 30's are much shorter than my Standard Falcon 30's. I was expecting them to be longer becuase of the flap, but maybe they are shorter over all because of the Mustang design??

The sticky out bit serves to make the whole blade bend. C4 observed that when kicking, the last 1/3 of the blade doesn't bend, thus results in a loss of efficiency. The flap is there to correct this. Hope this helps.

thanks sali, got ya. Although I'm embarrassed to say, I'll think you'll find what I thought it was for funny:
- when hunting on the bottom it scrapes the rocks first to avoid damaging the actual fin. A "sacrificial flap" if you will. Sorry.

It also scratches the bottom to lift suspension and himitate the sound of breams cracking mussels. Fish come close for curiosity!

You know what, I would never have thought like that. That shows you have a more creative and open mind with lots of wonderful idea stored within! That's a great thing and you shouldn't be sorry about that!

EDIT: I would give you rep, but it says I have to spread some around first. So, in time to come you'll see your rep go up by one measly point (hopefully)

Finally they´re here.




Pretty damn cool. First use will be on October 31st in Sharm. I´ll post a review on the fins as soon as I´m back in germany.

Looks cool! Why are You going to Sharm? Will You be in Dahab, too? If so, what's Your shoesize?
 
I´m going to Sharm because I´ll join a freediving course there. And no, I won´t be in Dahab.

Shoesize is 45.
