New FOM trophy title?

Deeper blue staff have been discussing some sort of db trophy or tribute in memory of Old Man Dave.
Perhaps renaming the FOM or FOY?

We thought everybody on the forum should be able to have their say.

What do you think - any ideas?

Yes, a tribute of some sort for the man who gave us so much.
Even after such a sort time there is a noticeable absence on the forum.
Perhaps something to do with the Hall of Fame could be considered too?
Just because it has a nice ring to it 'The Old Man Dave Hall of Fame'.
Like the rock n' roll hall of fame, only better.
A FOM trophy sounds good as well.

OMD was such an important part of the local DB spearo scene that it seems to me that it would definately be fitting to set up some kind of lasting tribute to him.

The problem is that OMD was so heavily involved in so much. I'm happy to go with the OMD Fish of the Year, as this is currently the 'biggy' that everyone would love to bag, or even the OMD Hall of Fame, as he was so instrumental in setting it up and shepherding it. But my personal leaning would have to be towards the OMD Fish of the Month, as it would be a more constant reminder of him, and would almost make it seem as though he was still around on the forum, enjoying the monthly debates.

Dave always seemed to enjoy the discussions and debates surrounding the Fish of the Month, so The OMD Fish of the Month gets my vote.

Doing the double is good too: OMD Fish of the Month and OMD Fish of the Year (they are part and parcel of each other, afterall, and it covers both bases: Dave's memory as a constant companion throughout the year, and then a suitably fine tribute as a finale to the season - although, at the end of the day, I think we should go with whatever Foxfish is happiest with).

I believe that Dave's contribution to DB was both profound and unique, and definately deserves a lasting and prominant tribute (and, personally, I'd like to be reminded of him as often as possible - he is sorely missed around here already).

That's indeed the idea. And it seems there's a general agreement for that. I had no doubt.

What we seem unable to decide is how exactly the prize will be named.

It started from Dave Foxen Awards, but that sounded too formal, too serious for a reminder of a friend among fishermen and sailors.

And so some guys came up with Old Man Dave's Trophy-Fish of the Month, and Old Man Dave's Trophy - Fish of the year. That should sound more familiar.

final thought: 'trophy fish' doesnt sound quite right, might give the impression of 'trophy hunting' rather than the bye-product of what we do (hunting for fish). hope that makes sense lol.

Good idea the flatties cup as a tribute to OMD's talent for flatties, but so far I havent' seen so many flatfish catches posted on a regular basis by forum members in the currently existing monthly FOM contests.
It would be such a pain to entitle a contest in the name of OMD, and then have no entries to it. Or should I be more optimistic?

Plus the forum staff (100% volunteer) is undermanned. Believe it or not, the UK staff members are having hard times to keep the current FOM, FOY and Hall of Fame managed, plus all the Anglo/Irish subforums baby sitted, plus looking after the rest of the forum, ban spammers, edit swearwords, keep in touch with rest of the staff. These duties absorb almost all of their on-line time. Add to it another contest to take care of....

These are my objections to the flatties cup proposal. The idea per se is nice, but it leaves me doubtful on the practical side of it.
