Hello guys,

Recently, I was at the local dive shop and the guy told me that their gun repair guy use a new gas that is supposed to be denser than air and the guns don't loose too much power at depths. Does any body know which gas that may be? I have been reading many threads here but this have not being discussed too much. I have access to different gases where i work at, like nitrogen, argon, etc. Is there any advantage of other gas over compressed air? Thanks

The pressure of the gas is what counts, not its density, so the performance at depth will be no different. A compressed air gun could be filled with a number of different gases, but air, which is mainly nitrogen and oxygen, is the most convenient. The only problem with pumping air is some water vapour also goes into the gun, however that is one of the reasons pneumatic guns contain oil to prevent any minor corrosion occurring internally.
