Hi folks,

I just came across some new gear on the Sporasub site. They have a new knife out, the "Cryo T", a new 3-D camo pattern wetsuit called the "Sea Green" and a new blue water float.

The knife's steel is said to be treated cryogenically at low temperatures to increase its hardness and resistance to wear, scuffs, and corrosion. The float has an inner bladder, fluorecent green outer layer and is "made in USA".

Cheers,
Claudio

Looks very interesting, I figured it was only a matter of time before the primary float colour changed from orange/red to green/yellow. The float looks like one I have seen before (Riffe?).

The knife looks very interesting - don't much care for the plastic handle, or the spear slot (which might snag).

Pity Sporasub prices are so high, I'd like to try the old Snake knife but really can't justify the silly prices asked.

Hi Mr. X,

You are right... the new Spora float looks very similar (if not identical) to the Riffe Torpedo float, which is more of an in-shore float.

Riffe also makes a 2 atmosphere float of the same shape, but that model seems to be a lot sturdier, and more appropriate for blue water because it's rated to 2 atmospheres.

I like the new knife a lot better than other knife in their current catalog, the Commando, which to me has a cheap stamped metal look. I would have liked it a lot better if the new knife was made of titanium, but if it is truly corrosion resistant, then I like it.

I would not mind their higher prices as long as they come out with equipment that is more on the cutting edge in terms of design and materials. To me that has not happened yet. I will not count their fins until they come out with carbon blades for it.

Hopefully they will continue updating their catalog this year.

Cheers,
Claudio

Hi guys,

Looks like Sporasub will soon come out with carbon blades for their Revolution foot pockets. I came across the following photo and post on the French site PSMcafe:

Omer is also looking to release Stingray blades in their new 3-D camo pattern. I don't know if these will be in fiberglass, like the Pegasos. Here is the photo of a prototype of these blades from the same PSM post:

Thanks Claudio, I want to see a Sporasub/Omer Airbalete 130cm.:friday

Cheers, Don Paul

Hi Don,

A 130 Airbalete would be a great blue water gun, wouldn't it? For kind of hunting would you favor an Airbalete 130 over one of your larger wooden blue water cannons?

I have only recently had a chance to start diving offshore ledges to a max depth in the low 60s feet and would probably have a hard time adjusting to a larger wooden gun, since I am not used to them.

Cheers,
Claudio

My go to gun Tiputa is 58'' and only uses 2 5/8 bands on a 9/32 shaft, is pretty sleek and is way different than the 5 and 6 band cannons one can find over here.
My big game gun Double Trouble, is a gun I favor in deep blue water and
off shore islands over any other gun I a can Imagine including a 130 or 140 pneumatic. This gun only use's lace wood to deaden the sound that would twang from its metal tube and carbon structure.

I do love shooting big pneumatics from 110cm up to 135cm from time to time for fun.
My Airbalete has been a blast to use on reef fish (Calico and small 25# White Sea bass). If I were hunting grouper a big pneumatic would be my choice however.:friday
I would love to see Omer build a longer Airbalete to compete with some of the long guns.
Cheers, Don
