hey whats up? first post here, i am from southern California and want to pursue free diving. i have always just done scuba diving with mostly underwater site seeing. but now have an interest in blue water spear fishing. i was curious if this was a good deal or if you have used any of these products...

Omer Alien mask
3mm Pro Socks Nylon Double-Lined Socks
Omer Millennium Black Free diving Fin
Omer Zoom Soft is a flexible snorkel

all for 220 us dollars?

Thanks for your time and knowledge.

try spearfishinggear.com --- i had excellent customer service with these guys.

same package for 199.00 usd

Black Freediving Package: Spearfishing Gear

i bought this package when i first got into freediving. it has served me well over the past year. all of the gear is of good quality; however there are tons of other excellent products out there and which is best comes down to the style of diving you are going to pursue and personal preference. in general, this package is well suited for spearfishing and recreational freediving needs.

if you use the search function you can find reviews on all the different products---literally every piece of freediving gear on the market is reviewed/discussed/debated here on deeperblue---the search function will easily unlock all of it for you.

you also need a rubber weight belt (and weights) and likely a good wetsuit --- tons of threads on these subjects, even just read through the titles of the last couple months of threads in the freediving equipment forum and you will find a mountain of good info on exactly these questions.

a good starting place is this thread in the beginners section -- tons of good info.

I agree with Harbour Seal. Spearfishinggear.com has great prices and good service (a friendly, family run business). I'm dealing with them for some other gear right now. That package looks pretty good. I had a little trouble ordering through their website, but they got back to me immediately when I emailed them. Also, you could check out Leisurepro.com. I don't think they have any prices as great as the package from spearfishinggear, however they have excellent prices on individual items, a very good selection and SUPERFAST shipping. (I ordered something on Sunday and had it in Vancouver by Tuesday afternoon). Good Luck!

you know what thanks so much guys, i kinda didn’t go with the online deal though those were some amazing sites thank you very much for your time and knowledge and harbor seal thanks i have been all about reading the beginners section. That was a great tip. Just to let you know I ended up going to my local dive shop and they were very nice and gave me an incredible deal. I went with the Riffe Euro 120, a set of Riffe silent hunter fins and a nice low volume mask with amber lenses. Thanks again.

sandsk8ter,

welcome to the wide world of freediving/spearfishin! i am happy to have been of some assistance.

now that you have some gear you can get started. have fun and dive safe.

read as much as you can on deeperblue, which will really ease the learning process, especially regarding safety issues such as shallow water blackout, proper breathe-up, etc and training techniques. there are tons of very experienced and super friendly divers on these forums who are willing to share their knowledge.

it was about a year ago that i found these forums myself. it truly is an amazing resource.

cheers,
