G'day all,,

I used to free dive quite alot a few years back and have decided to get back into it again (can't afford SCUBA). Did'nt know there was so much to it (lots of reading to do on the forum),, amazing!

Reason for my interest in free diving is to recover from a spinal injury, Doc says I have to relax and get some light exercise - anyone else done this?

I used to be a full time SCUBA instructor 5yrs back, played a bit of underwater hockey, some freediving - best was 27m / 3min30sec,, but I'd be struggling to get there these days,,

Cheers

welcome, pizzaman,
I guess that motivation will shift sooner or later in a way that rehab/recovery comes with (or goes against?) the diving You'll be doing anyway :)

IIRC, there's just recently been a short discussion on rehab and diving... Try searching the forum.

Thanks for the tip Sanso, will check it out..

Biggest drawback at the moment is my chiropractor won't let me use fins,,

Dave

pi22a yeah fins arent good since it does put pressure on your lower back. And the main issue with my spinal injury was to strengthen the muscles in my lower back. Just do the excersizes they prescribed and do allot of normal swimming. You body will soon enough be able to support the use of fins, and eventually a whole freediving kit. Just takes some patience and allot of work. :)

he he covert, yeah - aquatic cripples.com?

Looks like I'll have to wait a few more days before heading out for a swim,, just getting over the worst virus I've ever experienced (hospital), lost 4.5kgs over 4 days (1 notch up on my belt),,

Man, I hate being stuck inside,,,,,,,
