Im living in puerto vallarta, and about to start doing some spear fishing.. Just wanted to know what type of gun is recommended for a beginner. I'd like to spend up to $150.00. Don't know what I'll find here but i could also order one online.. Also would like to know about mask and fins ??

thank you...

Do you have someone to go with? Maybe they have experience with the local water and can make some suggestions.

I have seen some euro style guns in that price range. Cressi and Omer models in the 75cm range. They shoot nice. Don't let the single band fool you, they kill as effectively as an american style with multiple smaller bands. You can do a search in the forums here and read all kinds of opinions, reviews, advice, and even some blah blah blahdeblahblah

Also, maybe check the site's store.

Welcome to deeperblue 420 :) What sort of visibility do you hope to hunt in? Can you tell us what sort of depths (if freediving) size of fish etc Certainly as octpora said something like an Omer or Cressi would be a very good choice at any level of hunting, perhaps a bit longer than 75cm?

Thank you for a quick reply.. I've met a local here thats gonna show me the good spots for fish upto 30in. I would say 10 to 30ft in depth. Vallarta water is dark clear blue in most spots.. Also could you recommend a good wed site I could but my gear at a good price? Thanks.... Gustavo..

I've met a local that knows the spots, but doesn't have much the knowledge of right gear he speakes very little english.. I he's agreed to let me partner up with him..
